TORONTO – Head coach Darko Rajakovic always bristles when asked about the expectations fans and media have for the Toronto Raptors this season.

But even he can’t ignore the buzz around his team ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. “I have a neighbour, Stewart, he’s a pain in the ass every day asking me about the team and guys and the buzz in the city. He’s a really good thermometer for me on what’s going on in the city,” said Rajakovic on Tuesday after Raptors practice at OVO Athletic Centre. “We absolutely love what’s going on. It’s awesome to see that the city has a buzz about the team, that there’s excitement about the team. “Everybody’s looking forward to see what this team can do and how this team is going to perform. That’s why we put a lot of work in. That’s why we build this team so we can go out there and have a team that can answer the questions every single night.” Story continues below advertisement

Regina Pizzeria Square unveiled in Boston’s North End to mark 100th anniversary

A square in Boston’s North End has been named for Regina Pizzeria, an iconic pie palace that’s anchored the culinary mecca for a century. “It’s official! Regina Pizzeria Square has arrived in the North End!” the pizzeria posted to IG on Monday, next to a photo of a smiling Mayor Michelle Wu and owners standing beneath an official blue street sign bearing the name of Regina Pizzeria Square in the traditionally Italian-American stronghold. “Thank you to Mayor Wu, the City of Boston and Saint Anthony’s Society for making our hundredth anniversary celebration so special!,” said the IG posting, which also tagged Wu, the city, the feast, and state Representative Aaron Michlewitz, chair of the powerful House budget writing committee who represents the neighborhood and who also appears in the photo. If you’ve never scarfed a Regina slice, you’re missing out, according to a recent dispatch from Globe restaurant critic Devra First. “You know it, you love it, you stand in line for it,” First wrote earlier this month of Regina, located at 11½ Thacher St. “The famed North End pizzeria has been producing brick-oven pies since 1926.

Encore revenues are dropping as workers continue to strike

Casino revenues were down slightly more than 20 percent in September at Encore Boston Harbor, as gamblers shied away from the resort amid an ongoing strike by its workers. The year-over-year decline is the first concrete indication that the labor dispute — now approaching its second full month — is affecting Encore’s business. Picketing workers have been stationed around the clock outside of the facility throughout the strike, which has driven off some potential patrons. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission’s monthly casino revenue reports show that the casino’s gross revenue from table and slot games was $46.1 million, a a roughly 22 percent decrease from last year. The slowdown at the state’s largest casino will also be felt on Beacon Hill. The state’s cut of revenue from the Everett casino was $11.5 million in September, down from $14.8 million a year earlier. Other Massachusetts casinos posted relatively stable year-over-year numbers. MGM Springfield pulled in slightly less this September, with $22 million in revenue, and Plainridge Park Casino brought in slightly more than last September, with $14.6 million.

Bend residents want accountability. Oregon’s gun laws make it hard.

“That is a common practice in our state and around the country, to give kids a shotgun when they turn 16,” said Shawn Kollie, a Medford, Ore., criminal defense lawyer who specializes in helping gun owners in Second Amendment cases. “That in and of itself doesn’t create criminal or civil liability.”Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. A teacher wrestled with him, and a father of two students saw what was happening as he was driving by on his lunch break, pursued the gunman into the school, and fatally shot him with a handgun. The attacker, Griffin J. John II, had been a special education pupil at Silver Rail several years earlier, though investigators have not yet said where or whether he was in school at the time of the shooting. This week, the Silver Rail campus remained cordoned with yellow police tape, and the sidewalk outside was carpeted with flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, candles, and notes of grief.
