Can you sue over spam calls in Florida? One business owner says he got 649 unwanted calls in days - WKMG

Local NewsAttorneys say damages can range from $500 to $1,500 per call or textORLANDO, Fla. – A Florida business owner says spam calls have become more than an annoyance: he says they’re overwhelming his phone and interfering with his ability to run his company. Brian Wisniewski, who runs River Rave Entertainment, told News 6 he’s dealing with near-constant calls during business hours. “I get them about one every two minutes,” he said. “So by the time I hang up with one and get them to hang up, I’m on a call with another one. It’s continuous all day long from about 9:30 in the morning until 9:00 o’clock at night.”Wisniewski said that since last Thursday alone, he’s logged 649 unwanted calls. In one day, he said he received around 170. He reached out to News 6 after a previous report on robocalls, saying the volume has made it difficult for legitimate customers to reach him. “I’ve had to suspend it until I can get this under control because everybody that needs to get a hold of me can’t reach me,” he said.

Two troopers suspended in connection to rape at State Police barracks on Martha’s Vineyard

Two Massachusetts state troopers were suspended with pay Thursday in connection to a sexual assault that allegedly happened last summer when a man brought a woman to the State Police barracks on Martha’s Vineyard where he was visiting a trooper friend, a spokesperson for the agency said. The State Police superintendent also has prohibited overnight guests in housing used by seasonal troopers on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, the spokesperson said in a statement. The suspended troopers are Ryan Costello and Robert Branca. State police provided no details about their connection to the incident, saying it “remains the subject of a criminal investigation and a State Police internal affairs investigation.”The man charged with the Aug. 15 rape is Edward J. Brown, assistant director of security for Boston Public Schools. Brown told investigators he was staying at the barracks with a friend who is a trooper during the weekend of the alleged assault. The barracks serve as housing for troopers assigned to Martha’s Vineyard. The State Police Association of Massachusetts, the union that represent troopers, could not be reached for comment Thursday night.
