Ehsan Rahimy, MD, says most PRIMA serious adverse events occurred early, while vision gains held through 36 months. Patients with geographic atrophy (GA) have had treatments that slow lesion growth but nothing that restores central vision once it is lost. That changed in July 2026, when Science Corporation received a CE mark for the PRIMA photovoltaic retinal implant, making it commercially available across 30 European countries. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) review is ongoing. The 12-month results of the pivotal PRIMAvera trial were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in October 2025. In that trial, 26 of 32 participants who reached 12 months (81.3%) had a clinically meaningful gain in prosthetic visual acuity. The same report recorded 26 serious adverse events (SAEs) in 19 participants, most occurring within the first 2 months after implantation. As retina specialists begin fielding patient questions about the device, longer-term safety data and clear patient-selection criteria have become the central questions. At the American Academy of Ophthalmology 2026 Annual Meeting, Ehsan Rahimy, MD, presented 36-month safety data from PRIMAvera.

Today’s NYT Strands Hints, Spangram, Answers: Tuesday, October 20 (Duck Duck Goose) - Yahoo News Singapore
In today's emoji-based puzzle, if you solve that, you already have the spangram. How To Play StrandsThe New York Times' Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It's in beta for now, which means it'll only stick around if enough people play it every day. There's a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you'll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue. You'll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow. Be warned: You'll need to be on your toes. "Some themes are fill-in-the-blank phrases. They may also be steps in a process, items that all belong to the same category, synonyms or homophones," The New York Times notes.

No one should mistake my audience as representative of the general public in any poll, but I bet my audience is at least ballpark representative of the general public when it comes to something like pre-ordering, at the crack of dawn, a new iPhone form factor that costs $2000 to $3200.
