Why Manchester City fans boo the Premier League and Champions League anthems - BBC
The cacophony of boos that greet the Premier League and Champions League anthems before kick-off have now become a fixture at the Etihad Stadium. The jeers from Manchester City fans were turned up a notch against Ipswich last Saturday when the side played their first home game since being found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules. "I can't remember a Premier League or Champions League home game where the anthems haven't been booed," City season-ticket holder Dave Wilson told BBC Sport. The pre-match dissatisfaction towards top-flight chiefs can likely be traced back to February 2023, when the 115 charges for breaching the rules were first announced. Later that same year, Everton had 10 points - reduced to six on appeal - deducted after being found to have broken profit and sustainability rules. In their first game back after the sanction, Toffees fans displayed their ire at Goodison Park by loudly booing the league's pre-match anthem as well as holding up red cards with the word 'corrupt' printed underneath the Premier League logo. Though City supporters did not organise a similar display, their anger was clear.

Canada v England: Ellie Kildunne on bench as Red Roses ring changes - BBC
Emma Sing comes in at full-back in Kildunne's place for Saturday's rematch (00:00 BST) against Canada in Ottawa, while Tatyana Heard and Claudia Moloney-MacDonald - backline starters in the defeat - drop out of the matchday squad entirely. Helena Rowland and Mia Venner replace Heard and Moloney-MacDonald at inside centre and wing respectively. In the fourth change to the starting line-up, Sadia Kabeya, who appeared off the bench last week on her comeback from a leg injury, starts with Alex Matthews, two-time Rugby World Cup winner, dropping to the bench. Exeter's Flo Robinson and Sale's Hollie Aitchison are included on the bench as a new-look set of half-back replacements. Sing, a rangy runner who can also kick goals, started two matches at full-back during England's Six Nations campaign, with Kildunne switching to a different position on the wing on each occasion. Sing's Gloucester-Hartpury team-mate Venner made her England debut in 2020 aged just 17. Venner has won only another four caps since but was putting pressure on England's more established back three at the start of this year, appearing in wins over Scotland and Italy.

Connor McDavid fastest-ever to 20 assists, on pace for jaw-dropping 243 points this season - TSN
Connor McDavid is showing no signs of slowing down amid a red-hot start to the 2026-27 season. McDavid recorded three assists in Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild, bringing his total to 20 on the season. He became the fastest player in NHL history to hit the 20-assist mark, doing so in just nine games. The 29-year-old superstar bested some elite names, as the record was previously shared by Pat LaFontaine (1992-93), Mario Lemieux (1988-89) and Wayne Gretzky (1986-87), who all hit 20 assists in 10 games. McDavid posted three assists in a game for the 66th time Tuesday, moving him to sixth all-time in that category behind Gretzky (224), Lemieux (108), Paul Coffey (82), Adam Oates (71) and Sidney Crosby (67). Record watch appears set to be a theme for McDavid this season as he now owns 26 points on the campaign. His current pace projects out to 56 goals, 187 assists and 243 points over an 84-game season. McDavid has two extra games this season to top his previous career-high of 153 points set in 2022-23. His early-season pace, though, has opened the possibility of Gretzky being joined in the ultra-elite 200-point club.

Champions League Matchday Preview: Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal - Bavarian Football Works
Michael Scott Michael, aka LoneStar249, has been a writer for Bavarian Football Works since 2023. When he is not playing the role of Gameday Manager on weekdays, he is busy watching American football, basketball, tennis, or any sport on television. He is an avid fiction reader of the science fiction and mystery thriller genres but his favorite hobby (besides sports) is Legos. Bayern Munich drubbed RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, blowing off some much needed steam after frustrating draws on the road against Augsburg and Viking. Vincent Kompany pulled some key starters early in the second half in anticipation of this big match against the defending Premier League champions, Arsenal. Bayern will be forced to avenge last year’s 3-1 loss in London without the services of Michael Olise who was sent off in the Viking match with consecutive yellow cards. Arsenal has enjoyed another strong start to the season, winning every match except a weird 3-0 loss to Brighton. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expects to have most of his squad available, setting up a fantastic tactical showdown with the German giants.
