Lawsuit filed against Missouri State Highway Patrol over redacted crash reports - KTVO

COLE COUNTY, Mo. - A lawsuit has been filed against the Missouri State Highway Patrol saying the agency is illegally blacking out basic information in crash reports previously available to the public for years. The Missouri Press (MPA) and the Missouri Broadcasters Association (MBA) filed the petition in Cole County Circuit Court on Friday. The associations have been joined in the lawsuit by Gray Local Media, Inc., Warden Publishing Company, and managing editor Roxie Murphy. In 2024, the Highway Patrol began omitting names and other details from its online crash report site and in responses to records requests. The petition made by the plaintiffs states that “all information on crash reports is considered an ‘open record’ and cannot be withheld from the public.”“Missourians have had the right to see these records for decades, and that right did not expire when the MSHP unilaterally changed its policy,” said Chad Stebbins, Executive Director of the Missouri Press Association. “We are standing up for all Missourians who deserve to know and understand the safety issues surrounding roads they travel every day.

MN State Patrol reminding drivers about school bus safety laws - fox21online.com

DULUTH, Minn. (KQDS-TV) -- The Minnesota State Patrol is reminding drivers to be on alert for school buses and the safety laws that come with them. Flashing yellow lights tell drivers to prepare to stop. Red flashing lights mean students are entering or exiting the bus. Those red lights also mean motorists must stop at least 20 feet from the bus or face a minimum fine of $500 and a misdemeanor. "The school buses are obviously transporting the precious cargo. They have students on board that are trying to get to school or get home at the end of the day. And when the red lights are flashing, it's when the bus is stopped, and the kids are getting on and off. That's when they're most vulnerable to something bad happening from somebody going by that school bus illegally," said Lt. Brian Reu, Minnesota State Patrol. Drivers also can't pass a school bus on either side when students are outside of it. Last year, 2,000 tickets were issued in Minnesota for school bus-related offenses.
