Revolution survive a late surge to beat the Philadelphia Union and end their 15-game unbeaten streak
Despite an injury list that has grown to touch every level of their team, the Revolution are on their best run of a resurgent season. On Saturday night, that run took out one of the best by any team this year in MLS. New England ended Philadelphia’s 15-game unbeaten streak in league, winning, 2-1, in Chester, Pa., on goals by Dor Turgeman and Carles Gil. It certainly did not lack for drama at the end. Seemingly locked up when Gil made it 2-0 from the penalty spot at the strike of 90 minutes, 12 minutes of stoppage time were called after a slew of injury delays and a lengthy review to grant the penalty — an offside call on Gil was reversed, prompting a look at a late tackle by Philadelphia’s Neil Pierre at the edge of the box. Pierre brought the Union within a goal with a header at 101:40 on the stadium clock, with multiple extra minutes then added. Matt Turner’s sixth and final save, a tip of a Agustín Anello drive just over the bar, came just into the 16th extra minute. The Union got a final corner, but fired wide to finally end it.
