Often overlooked, nail salon workers in Massachusetts face income instability and health hazards
Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter EmailThere are more than 18,000 licensed technicians working at roughly 1,700 registered salons across the state, according to the report, which builds on a small survey of Vietnamese nail salon workers in 2021 focused on pandemic-related challenges. The new research didn’t reveal the kind of exploitation detailed in a 2015 New York Times investigation that found new workers who had to pay salon owners for their spots and worked without pay for months. But Massachusetts can take steps to improve income stability and working conditions, which will help transform nail salon work into a more sustainable livelihood, project partners said. In New York, for instance, nail salon workers have a bill of rights, and California has a program to recognize salons that have adopted healthy workplace practices. “The nail salon industry has … helped to provide income in the past to raise up entire generations,” said Thao Ho, staff attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services’ Asian Outreach Center, which coauthored the report.

Hanshin Tigers Agree To Post Teruaki Sato - MLB Trade Rumors
The Hanshin Tigers made it official today, announcing that Teruaki Sato will be posted for Major League teams this offseason. The posting has been rumored to be in the works for months, and at least five (and likely many more) MLB clubs have already shown interest in the reigning Central League MVP. Sato’s stock is high enough that MLBTR’s Steve Adams placed him second among all free agents in the September edition of the free agent power rankings, which rank players based on earning potential. Sato is relatively young (turning 28 in March), can play both third base and right field, and he has been arguably the best hitter in Nippon Professional Baseball over the last two seasons. That said, Sato isn’t considered a strong defender at either position, his strikeout and contact rates leave something to be desired, and there is the standard uncertainty over how star NPB players will adjust to Major League Baseball.

Sharks vs Maple Leafs Prediction, Picks, Prop Bets For October 19, 2026 - NHL - Covers.com
Roslovic leads Toronto with 30 SOG through nine games. He's recorded three or more in five of his last six and has put up back-to-back five-shot performances. He's also averaging 1:25 of power-play time per game, and faces a San Jose squad that ranks 20th in shots allowed this season. This total will close at 7. The Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks are two poor defensive teams, ranking in the bottom seven in expected goals allowed/60 at all strengths. Both clubs also surrender plenty of quality chances on the penalty kill, ranking in the bottom six in 4-on-5 xGA/60. Add in two teams with save percentages in the bottom third of the league, and Monday night could get a little raucous. The Leafs were riding a five-game Over streak before Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders snapped it. However, scoring on Ilya Sorokin is much different than facing Yaroslav Askarov, who has allowed 3+ goals in every start this season. If Askarov gets the nod, expect this total to move north quickly. Likely Toronto starter Anthony Stolarz hasn't been much better, allowing nine goals over his last two games.
