CASPER, Wyo. — A $3 million federal grant to help build a new air traffic control tower at the Casper-Natrona International Airport is part of a broader $146 million investment in rural Wyoming infrastructure, housing and economic development made recently by the U. S. Department of Agriculture.
The $3 million Community Facilities Grant from USDA Rural Development supports a critical project replacing the airport’s 72-year-old control tower. The existing facility, built in 1954, stands under 50 feet tall, which airport director Glenn Januska previously said makes it shorter than modern standard towers and and among the oldest active towers in the Federal Aviation Administration system. The planned replacement will reach approximately 132 feet.
