(AP Photo/Gregory Bull) LOS ANGELES (AP) — There won’t be a three-peat for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their dream of becoming the first team to win three consecutive World Series titles since the New York Yankees from 1998-2000 — and the first National League club ever to accomplish the feat — faded with anemic offense, a shaky bullpen and an ailing Shohei Ohtani slumping in the postseason.

Webb Unravels Small Cosmic Details With Interferometry Observing Mode - NASA Science (.gov)
One of the most recognizable features of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope is its large, segmented, gold-coated mirror, which delivers images twice as sharp as pre-launch estimates. Aperture masking interferometry is an observational technique that allows for high-angular resolution imaging of celestial objects. The basic principle involves placing a specially designed mask with several small pinholes in the light path through the telescope. This mask effectively turns the primary mirror into multiple smaller telescopes. The technique is called aperture masking interferometry (AMI), and Webb’s tool to do it is the Near Infrared Imager and Slitless Spectrograph, built by the Canadian Space Agency. Three science teams described how unique, specialized observations made this way provide new insights to three cosmic objects.

LIV Golf: Ian Poulter becomes latest star to leave breakaway tour - BBC
Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter has become the latest star name to confirm he is quitting LIV Golf - leaving the breakaway tour's future looking increasingly uncertain. The 50-year-old Englishman was among a plethora of stars lured by LIV when the Saudi Arabia-backed project was launched in 2022 and was a staunch defender of the circuit when it was criticised. But Poulter has followed the likes of major champions Jon Rahm and Louis Oosthuizen in announcing his departure. He has said he wants to help his two sons, Luke and Joshua, pursue professional careers, as well as develop his YouTube channel. Saudi's Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing from LIV in April - having pumped in more than $5bn (£3.8bn) - leading to the league filing for bankruptcy protection in the United States last month. It has secured a possible $300m (£224m) in financing from BC Partners Credit to try to move forward with 'LIV 2.0', but only a handful of players have so far committed to the proposed competition in 2027. "I wanted everyone to hear it direct from me that I have decided to not move forward with being part of LIV 2.0," Poulter wrote on his social media channels.

Connor Hellebuyck trade talks escalating with Winnipeg Jets, potential deal could come Friday - TSN
The Connor Hellebuyck saga could be about to end in Winnipeg. TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports trade talks are escalating with the Winnipeg Jets and a deal could take place as soon as Friday. It remains unclear where Hellebuyck will land when his trade request is honoured. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun has previously listed the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres and Utah Mammoth as possible suitors. A trade would months of speculation about the netminder’s future after he initially expressed frustrations with the team’s direction in April and formally requested a trade over the summer. That turned into an unpaid suspension when Hellebuyck did not report to training camp last month. It could also come on the same day Hellebuyck’s suspension was set to end. It was revealed last week that the netminder informed the Jets he planned to report ahead of their opening game and was then given a three-week disciplinary suspension for skipping camp. The development also arrives after it was speculated Thursday that things could go on hold until after the weekend to allow the Jets to keep their focus on Saturday’s Heritage Classic against the Montreal Canadiens.
