Mum fights on for inquiry after daughter's death 19 hours agoClaudia FenwickNorth East and CumbriaSuppliedJodey Whiting, from Stockton-on-Tees, died in 2017Joy Dove has spent years campaigning for answers after the death of her disabled daughter Jodey Whiting who took her own life after her benefits were stopped. Despite other devastating family losses, Dove is fighting on for a public inquiry. For Dove, 72, a letter from Sir Stephen Timms dated 12 October, is another chapter in a campaign that has come to define much of her life since her daughter died in 2017. The Minister for Social Security and Disability sets out changes the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says it has made to improve support for vulnerable benefit claimants, following her daughter's death, aged 42. However, Dove, from Stockton-on-Tees, says "it is still happening" to other vulnerable people and more than eight years on, she is calling for greater accountability from the DWP. She successfully fought for a rare second inquest for Jodey which revealed the DWP's failings. Dove welcomed a meeting with Timms in the summer and she said she believed he was "concerned and ahead" of the issues.

Judge blocks US sanctions on rights groups helping ICC Gaza war crimes inquiry - The Guardian
A US federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from placing sanctions on two US-based human rights groups for working to help the international criminal court’s (ICC) investigations into war crimes in Gaza. In a 30-page order issued on Tuesday, Jesse M Furman, a judge at the US district court for the southern district of New York, granted a preliminary injunction to the two groups, Democracy for the Arab World Now (Dawn) and Taxpayer Alliance Against Genocide (Taag). The two organizations sued the Trump administration this summer, challenging an executive order issued in February 2025 that imposed sanctions against the ICC. The order warned the US government would “impose tangible and significant consequences” on people involved in investigations that Washington said threatened the national security of the US or its allies, including Israel. The order came after the ICC issued arrest warrants for the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his former defense minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.

He features in a BBC World Service documentary about the shadowy world of Russian saboteurs. The documentary, by independent Polish journalist Marcin Mamon, also features a man we are calling Foma, a Russian living in exile in Poland.
