ST. PAUL, Minn. (Valley News Live) - More than 40 state, local, and federal law enforcement agencies have agreed to a coordinated plan to address gang and group violence across Minnesota, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced Monday. The agencies have committed to sharing responsibility and resources to identify offenders and stop gun violence in Minnesota communities. The effort will operate under Minnesota’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center, a data-driven policing approach led by the BCA, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the FBI. The center will coordinate information sharing and direction across agencies involved in gang-related investigations. The collaboration draws on existing law enforcement resources, including the BCA’s Violent Crime Reduction Unit and its data-driven FIRST model for processing gun-related crimes, multiple county-based Violent Crime Enforcement Teams that already target gang, drug and violent offender activity, and non-fatal shooting teams run by the St. Paul and Minneapolis police departments.
