(KABC) -- Video showing federal immigration agents taking a man to the ground during an arrest in Long Beach has drawn scrutiny from local leaders and advocacy groups, with one congressman now demanding an investigation. According to witnesses, Ricardo Gonzalez, a former Long Beach city worker, was riding a bicycle Saturday when U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pursued him in SUVs and took him to the ground in a neighborhood. Neither ICE nor the Department of Homeland Security has publicly said why Gonzalez was arrested. Advocates say the man seen being detained is a U. S. citizen. Two Brockton brothers sentenced for staged robbery at bank where one worked

A pair of Brockton brothers were sentenced to four months in prison Monday for stealing nearly $200,000 from a credit union where one of them worked, federal prosecutors said. Jenel Flounoury, 30, and Justin Flounoury, 34, were also each sentenced to three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a joint restitution of $197,146, according to the office of Leah B. Foley, US Attorney for Massachusetts. The two pleaded guilty in July to one count of conspiracy to commit larceny from a credit union in federal court in Boston, prosecutors said in a statement. According to Foley’s office, Jenel and Justin Flounoury conspired to stage a robbery of Energy Credit Union in West Roxbury, where Jenel worked as a teller. On Sept. 24, 2024, Justin left his job in South Boston early and was driven to the credit union, the statement said. Wearing a hat, sunglasses, mask and dark clothing, Justin went to the teller window where Jenel was working and handed him a note that read “Hand it Over,” officials said.

Family devastated after charges stayed in 2018 fatal hit-and-run near Terrace

Charges against two Surrey men accused in a deadly hit-and-run near Terrace nearly eight years ago have suddenly been dropped weeks before their B. C. provincial court trial was set to begin. Taylor Stogryn, 37, and Conrad Wierzbicki, 35, were charged with indignity to human remains and obstructing justice. Stogryn was also accused of failing to stop at the scene of an accident in the 2018 collision that killed Cameron Kerr, 30On Weds. Oct. 14, Kerr’s brother said the family met with RCMP and Crown counsel, who informed them the Nov. 2 trial would not be proceeding, and charges against both Stogryn and Wierzbicki had been stayed. “It’s really hard to understand how the justice system could lead us to this,” Garrett Kerr said in an interview, adding his family is pretty devastated at the news.
