The last Nissan GT-R spent nearly 20 years giving Nissan something most mainstream brands didn't have. Specifically, it had supercar-like speed, killer looks, and it cost less than cars it outperformed. Then, in August of last year, it ended production without a direct successor, leaving a high-horsepower gap in the market. Based on new comments from Kia's R&D boss, it would love to be the brand that fills the gap.

Speaking to Autocar, Hyundai Motor Group R&D chief Manfred Harrer talked about the GT line and the potential for something above it. "I like the idea," says Harrer. "You see a lot of car makers going that way, so why not?," he said. Keep in mind, this is a guy who previously worked at BMW and Porsche. Performance machines at the top end of the segment are familiar to him. That said, his focus right now appears to be something between what Kia offers now and a GT-R-esque model.

Here’s Everything Wrong With My ‘Mint’ $1700 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Last weekend I purchased a new 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee after realizing that my 5-speed “Holy Grail” project hadn’t gone anywhere in five years and wasn’t likely to go anywhere in the next five years. This nice 1993, I figured, would replace that project and give me an opportunity to drive a ZJ now instead of sometime far in the future. There’s only one issue: There’s no chance I can drive this thing now, as it’s got some issues. Here’s what they are. When I first saw this Jeep ZJ, I knew I was buying it. The shiny paint, the 100% rust-free body, the rare unkillable AW4 automatic, the 95,000 miles on the odometer, the low $1700 asking price — it was a no-brainer.

The 2027 BMW 7-Series Embraces Luxurious Maximalism

The new 7-series glides nearly silently away from a stoplight, wafting forward with a seamless acceleration unexpected for something shaped like a brutalist apartment building. “Cool,” you say. “What about the 740, the combustion version of the refreshed 7-series?” Friends, that was the combustion version. The difference between the gas-powered BMW and its electric i7 sibling is barely a whisper of pistons, the smallest shudder of stop-start. The 2027 BMW 740 and i7 are near silent in motion. But their design? That’s glittery and loud. The 7-series is midway through its seventh generation, and like any good Hollywood star, it won’t age out without a facelift to keep it worthy of paparazzi attention. For 2027, that includes a dramatic chiseling of the exterior and a hefty investment in new materials and technology on the inside. For the 7-series, BMW invokes a Devo-like freedom of choice, with a thick binder of options for paint colors, interior materials, wheel designs, and drivetrain combinations. BMW’s 2027 design follows a trend we’ve seen recently from other manufacturers, such as Audi and Jaguar, for sedans with blocky front ends and high hood lines.
