Benjamin Maier now Head of Sports Coordination Bobsleigh in Austria - International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation

Innsbruck (RWH) Benjamin Maier, the 2021 World Championship silver medalist in four-man Bobsleigh, will remain involved in the sport in Austria. The 32-year-old, who retired after finishing fifth at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, will take over as Head of Sports Coordination for Bobsleigh at the Austrian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (ÖBSV). The federation issued a respective press release in Innsbruck. After retiring, the three-time Olympian had already served as a coach at major events such as the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games and the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics. As assistant national coach, he was fully involved in the development of the Austrian Bobsleigh teams. As a next step, this long-term assignment leads up to the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps and beyond. “I was a little surprised. But what’s particularly appealing to me is that I know the athletes, as well as many coaches, from my own time as an active athlete. The federation has a wealth of experience that I can draw on. So I won’t be thrown in at the deep end,” said Maier, who is continuing his medical studies alongside his new role.
