The US has pushed back on the IRGC’s claims, dismissing them as an attempt to increase oil prices ahead of US elections. Iran says that seven oil tankers have been struck and sustained damage in the Strait of Hormuz, the largest single-day toll for the waterway since the United States and Israel started their war against Iran on February 28. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement on Thursday that four of the vessels were transferring oil when they were targeted and caught fire overnight. The other three were disabled after striking mines. The IRGC also warned that it could strike US bases across the Middle East if Washington moves to help tankers transit other parts of the strait.

Massive student-led rally marches in Belgrade ahead of Serbian election - The Guardian

About 150,000 supporters of Serbia’s opposition student movement rallied in central Belgrade on Thursday, seeking to oust the party of veteran leader Aleksandar Vucic in crunch parliamentary elections this weekend. The Student List, a leaderless movement of student-backed candidates, wants to end more than 14 years of rule by Vucic’s rightwing populist Serbian Progressive party (SNS) in Sunday’s vote. Civil society groups have said the campaign has been marred by intimidation, arrests and misuse of public resources. “I came to support the Student List because young people finally gave me hope that it is possible to live in a normal country,” Marija Nedeljkovic Radic, 47, said as she arrived for the students’ rally. “Really, for the first time in my life, I believe that it is possible.”Crowds streamed into Belgrade’s central Slavija Square from all directions, also filling several blocks of streets around the area.
