Karim Diané was all over New York Comic Con this year, appearing on the Empire Stage with his Star Trek: Starfleet Academy costars and producers and also putting in appearances at the Fanhome booth for meet & greets with fans. He was also at the NYC premiere of the new documentary The 60-Year Mission, where I caught up with him on the red carpet.
Before I could even start asking questions about his role as Academy‘s cadet Jay-Den Kraag (and playing Star Trek’s first gay Klingon), he wanted to talk about TrekMovie itself, admitting he was already reading what the site had to say about the show before his casting was even announced. He gave me a huge hug, saying I was one of the “first faces” he saw and became familiar with as he was taking on the role. It was a lovely way to start the interview.
