Candu attitude: Carney says Canadian bid for Turkish nuclear plant has ‘good chances’

ISTANBUL -- Prime Minister Mark Carney said Friday a Canadian company has a real shot at winning a lucrative tender to supply nuclear energy to Turkiye -- a prospect he said was remote a year ago. Carney was meeting with Turkish business leaders in Istanbul Friday, a day after he announced a new strategic partnership between Canada and Turkiye to deepen co-operation on a range of files. Energy is one of the pillars of that agreement and Carney said the AtkinsRealis bid to supply two planned Turkish power plants with the Candu nuclear reactor now has “good chances” of succeeding. He added it would have been a long-shot a year ago. “We’re in negotiations, and those negotiations are getting more intense. Probably from here to the end of the year, or around COP 31, it will be a decision for the Turkish government,” Carney told reporters in French. Why big music stars like Harry Styles and Celine Dion are embracing residencies

Published: October 23, 2026 at 10:14a.m. EDTCeline Dion is hours away from taking the stage in Paris, France, marking her first performance in four years. Genevieve Beauchemin reports. NEW YORK — For Harry Styles’ dedicated audience, it is the can’t-miss event of the year: Tens of thousands have descended on New York City’s Madison Square Garden each night of his 30-date residency, rushing to catch the show before it concludes Halloween weekend. The stint follows the artist’s 2022 blockbuster run, when he performed 15 consecutive nights at the famous arena. And he’s not the only one embracing the format. Residencies in Las Vegas, once viewed as the final stop at the end of a long career, have attracted younger performers like Usher, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. In 2024, Adele embarked on a 10-date Munich residency. And last year, Bad Bunny’s 31-date residency in Puerto Rico single-handedly boosted the island’s fragile economy, generating over US$200 million while extending his efforts to elevate the U. S. territory’s global profile. Celine Dion, who holds the record for the highest-grossing residency in Vegas, recently embarked on one just outside Paris.

Published: October 23, 2026 at 10:13a.m. EDTA new survey commissioned by Picton Investments and conducted by Pollara Strategic Insights found 83 per cent of Canadian investors are confident their portfolios are well diversified. Yet only 57 per cent say they are familiar with a structural shift in global equity markets that concentrates fewer companies in major stock market indices such as the S&P 500. The report suggests investors are unaware of the risk associated with the growing market weight of a small number of large companies – many tied to technology and artificial intelligence – in the same indices used as benchmarks for mutual funds and exchange traded funds (ETFs). It notes Canadian investors predominantly rely on traditional investment products including mutual funds (55 per cent) and ETFs (31 per cent). Canadian investors especially vulnerableDiversification hedges risk by strategically spreading portfolio assets among sectors, geographic regions and asset classes. It also exposes the portfolio to a wide variety of opportunity.

Such devices also have their own unique care and protection considerations. Folding screen phones have their upsides.
