(TabTrader.com/Unsplash)SummaryThis is an excerpt from CoinDesk newsletter 'Daybook.' Sign up here, if you haven't already. Bitcoin BTC$83,333.91 options are taking a bigger share of the largest cryptocurrency’s derivatives market in a sign that trading is becoming more sophisticated. According to Volmex, the issuer of the bitcoin volatility index BVIV, options accounted for just under 60% of open interest among all bitcoin derivatives last week. That’s up from around 50% at the start of the year. Open interest is the total value of contracts that traders have opened and not yet closed. The market encompasses bitcoin futures, perpetual futures and both bitcoin-native and ETF-based options. Volmex called the growth a structural shift in bitcoin markets, a sign that trading bitcoin is now about managing risk, not just betting on direction. Options allow investors to hedge their holdings, earn additional income or bet on a big move without borrowing, so positions can last longer than a leveraged perpetual bet.

S. agency that regulates national banks and trusts has issued the first final rule putting the GENIUS Act into place in January, though a number of other regulators are still working on other parts of the implementation. The section on stablecoin yield doesn't offer a lot of detail on what activity may fall under the law's wide prohibition of such yield from issuers, but the crypto industry has already interpreted GENIUS to permit the rewards programs that have become commonplace with stablecoin activity on exchanges. The final rule states that pre-existing rewards programs won't get special treatment as the OCC assesses which ones pass regulatory muster. U. S. crypto exchanges that have long been giving people rewards for usings stablecoins will have to get the agency to sign off on those existing programs, according to the U. S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the first federal banking regulator to issue a final rule under the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U. S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act. The OCC, which oversees U. S.
