'To Catch a Predator' pioneered public shaming as entertainment. Now everyone's doing it. - Yahoo
In a characteristic episode of To Catch a Predator, a gray-haired man in his 40s walks into a suburban house in Florida. He's there to meet a 15-year-old named Jolanda who he's been chatting with online under the username "genericwhitemale," but he's intercepted by an unruffled Chris Hansen, who uses his authoritative newscaster voice to instruct the visitor to have a seat. Genericwhitemale begins eating cookies. One of his eyebrows flies to the top of his forehead as he denies knowing Jolanda's age. Jolanda is not really a teenager. She's not even real. She was constructed by the members of Perverted Justice, an online watchdog group, who masqueraded as children in chatrooms to invite potential sexual predators to a home under the guise of meeting the kid they'd been talking to. Instead, they're met by an adult decoy portraying Jolanda, law enforcement and a TV crew, all in on the scheme together. The whole thing was broadcast on NBC's To Catch a Predator series, a sensation in the mid-2000s. Hansen snarkily asks the subject of the sting if he'd like to finish his cookie. The man says no — he just wants to go to the beach — and turns to leave.

Here’s what critics are saying about “Primetime”, Robert Pattinson’s “To Catch a Predator” drama - Yahoo
Key pointsCritics are sharing nearly universal praise for Robert Pattinson's performance as Chris Hansen in Primetime. Opinions are somewhat divided on the overall quality of the rest of the movie. Primetime hits theaters on September 25. Primetime is one week away from hitting theaters, and critics are sharing their reviews of the Chris Hansen drama. The film, which stars Robert Pattinson as the former Dateline journalist behind To Catch a Predator, currently stands at a 92 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Lance Oppenheim, the film has been denounced by the real Hansen, but has earned nearly unanimous praise for Pattinson's performance. However, Oppenheim's style and the overall purpose of the film have both proved somewhat critically divisive. Vulture's Bilge Ebiri praised Pattinson's unpredictable turn as Hansen. "Pattinson plays him like a man whose voice and demeanor could change at will, an ambitious morass of contradictions," he writes. "It's a stunning demonstration of the actor's range, and watching the film you can't imagine any other performer of his generation pulling it off.
