VotingWatch Eyewitness News and ABC13 originals around the clockThursday, October 22, 2026 1:54AMHOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Seeing social media posts breathlessly claiming one side is performing better than the other as early voting gets underway? Not so fast, experts tell ABC13. Nancy Sims, a political science expert at the University of Houston has studied election trends for years. Early voting has grown in popularity, Sims said. More people used to vote on Election Day, but now about two-thirds of people vote early, Sims tells ABC13. Sims said early voting turnout in urban areas in Texas is between 30-40% higher than it was in 2022 midterms, and 20% higher in rural areas. Historically, Democrats have voted early, and Republicans have voted on Election Day, but Sims said it is not just traditionally Democratic urban areas showing up at the polls in Harris County now. "Across the county, even in the very highly suburban, tend to be Republican areas, the turnout is very high at those locations as well, so I'm not sure you can extrapolate from that data," Sims said.

Brian Wisniewski, who runs River Rave Entertainment, told News 6 he’s dealing with near-constant calls during business hours. “I get them about one every two minutes,” he said. “So by the time I hang up with one and get them to hang up, I’m on a call with another one. It’s continuous all day long from about 9:30 in the morning until 9:00 o’clock at night.”Wisniewski said that since last Thursday alone, he’s logged 649 unwanted calls. In one day, he said he received around 170. He reached out to News 6 after a previous report on robocalls, saying the volume has made it difficult for legitimate customers to reach him. “I’ve had to suspend it until I can get this under control because everybody that needs to get a hold of me can’t reach me,” he said.

Two troopers suspended in connection to rape at State Police barracks on Martha’s Vineyard
Two Massachusetts state troopers were suspended with pay Thursday in connection to a sexual assault that allegedly happened last summer when a man brought a woman to the State Police barracks on Martha’s Vineyard where he was visiting a trooper friend, a spokesperson for the agency said. The State Police superintendent also has prohibited overnight guests in housing used by seasonal troopers on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, the spokesperson said in a statement. The suspended troopers are Ryan Costello and Robert Branca. State police provided no details about their connection to the incident, saying it “remains the subject of a criminal investigation and a State Police internal affairs investigation.”The man charged with the Aug. 15 rape is Edward J. Brown, assistant director of security for Boston Public Schools. Brown told investigators he was staying at the barracks with a friend who is a trooper during the weekend of the alleged assault. The barracks serve as housing for troopers assigned to Martha’s Vineyard. The State Police Association of Massachusetts, the union that represent troopers, could not be reached for comment Thursday night.
