Toronto builders are turning condos projects into rentals. Here’s why
Published: October 18, 2026 at 9:25p.m. EDTTORONTO – Toronto developer Matt Young originally planned to sell condos in the first phase of a major housing development along St. Clair Avenue East in Scarborough. Now, those homes will be rentals. “It made more financial sense as a rental,” Young, president and CEO of Republic Developments, told CTV News. “There’s a disconnect between the price that someone is able or willing to pay today and the cost to build.”How to set CTV News as your preferred source on GoogleDeveloper Amir Ismailzadeh is also focusing on rentals, including a five-unit property nearing completion in North York. He says many families who want to own a home are struggling to save enough for a down payment, even when they have well-paying jobs. “But in the meantime, they really need somewhere to live,” Ismailzadeh told CTV News from inside one of the units. “And because we are building these rentals in neighbourhoods where they are family oriented, these are becoming good options for them to rent until they do buy,” he said, adding that three of the five units have already been leased with five more in the pipeline.

Governor Hochul, Bruce Blakeman hit campaign trail before early voting underway next weekend
NEW YORK (WABC) -- Governor Kathy Hochul and Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman campaigned in separate appearances Sunday, offering sharply different visions for New York as voters prepare for early voting and Election Day. Hochul visited Concourse Village in the Bronx, where she highlighted policies including a ban on cell phones in schools and expanded access to community college and child care. The governor said those priorities are rooted in her own experiences. "I knew what it was like to struggle, not having child care. That's why as governor, when I'm focusing on your family as my fight and we're going to have child care for everybody, this was a personal fight because I knew what it was like not to have it," Hochul said. Meanwhile, Blakeman campaigned in Elmont on Long Island alongside Lee Zeldin, whom Hochul narrowly defeated in the 2022 gubernatorial election. Zeldin later became administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in the Trump administration. While Hochul did not mention Blakeman during her Bronx appearance, supporters said a major challenge for Democrats in the borough is voter turnout. "I'm counting on all of you," Hochul told attendees.

Single-cell RNA sequencing dataset of hippocampus from mice of neuropathic pain at different time points - Nature
We’re sharing this article early to provide faster access to peer-reviewed, accepted research. It is citable and carries a permanent DOI. This version is subject to further edits and will be replaced automatically by the final Version of Record. All legal disclaimers apply. AbstractChronic pain (CP) affects more than 30% of the global population and is often accompanied by significant cognitive impairments. Although an increasing number of studies have focused on the pathological mechanisms associated with chronic pain-induced cognitive impairments, most have concentrated on the stage after the onset of cognitive impairments. Currently, the course by which chronic pain induces cognitive impairment has not been fully reported. Therefore, single-cell RNA sequencing were conducted in this study in order to map the mice hippocampus altas before and after cognitive impairments induced by spared nerve injury (SNI) on days 3, 7, 14, and 21. After quality control screening, 53852 out of 64207 cells from 11 samples were retained for subsequent analysis. The reliability of the sequencing data was verified through analysis of various evaluation indicators and sequencing alignment rates.
