GM is closing its Brownstown Battery Assembly plant as its lease ends and repurposing a building originally meant for hydrogen fuel cell development, according to an Automotive News report. The Brownstown plant built batteries and electric drive units for the Cadillac Celestiq, seen above, and the now-discontinued Corvette E-Ray. The closure and repurposing are part of GM’s plan to pivot back to gas-powered engines after losing substantial money in alternative fuel investments and development. Until relatively recently, GM was investing heavily in EV development, releasing several electric models and even pledging to become carbon-neutral by 2040. But Americans simply aren’t buying into the EV hype, and the loss of the federal EV tax credit has soured the deal quite a bit for shoppers who may have been on the fence. As a result, several automakers have had to reverse course after investing large amounts of money into alternative fuel development and losing even more when the demand never quite took off. GM appears to be the latest automaker to pull the plug on a big part of its alternative fuels operations.

VERDICTIf comfort and style are what you’re after, the RX Hybrid has lots of both. By Drew DorianOverview Not everyone wants an SUV that gets their heart racing, and Lexus built a crossover for those folks when they made the soothing Lexus RX Hybrid. That’s not to say that it isn’t quick—the RX500h and plug-in hybrid RX450h+ models offer plenty of pickup. Those two models cost a lot more than the sleepier base RX350h, though. All the variants offer a comfortable cabin crafted from upscale materials and peppered with contemporary tech features. The RX Hybrid is a two-row affair, and there’s plenty of passenger space for four adults to ride in comfort. Fuel economy is good too, especially in the RX350h, which boasts the highest fuel economy numbers of the bunch.

BMW's New Armored 7 Series Is Built For Handguns, Not Grenades

BMW models like the 7 Series Protection and X5 Protection VR6 are designed to safely cocoon occupants from even the most serious of outside threats, including grenade blasts. However, if you're a high-profile individual and only expect to deal with guns being fired at you, these models are a little overkill. That's where the new BMW Concept 7 Protection comes in. From the outside, the Concept 7 Protection looks like any regular 7 Series, and that's the point. It's designed to be more discreet than BMW's more heavily armored models, making it ideal for private and corporate customers. Even more important than its subtle looks, it's said to retain the same handling characteristics as a normal 7 Series.
