Google claims its newest AI model, Gemini 4 Argon, just beat Minecraft — no human help required. In a research paper posted Oct. 15, Google DeepMind researchers said a team of four Gemini 4 Argon agents defeated the Ender Dragon, the game’s final boss. The agents started in a freshly generated survival world on Easy difficulty and were given a single goal: kill the dragon. It took them 27 hours and 14 minutes. Along the way, the AI players died 605 times, mostly to monsters.
The researchers say this is the first time AI agents have beaten Minecraft from start to finish using only standard tools, with no game-specific help built by humans. Researchers watched the run on a live dashboard and could have stepped in at any point, but they say they never needed to.

Google rolls out Gemini 4 Argon with free research access for 10,000 scientists - EdTech Innovation Hub
Google has begun rolling out Gemini 4 Argon and is offering 10,000 scientists six months of free access to Google Antigravity’s highest usage tier. The research offer accompanies a model designed to handle extended, multi-step work across software engineering, scientific research and professional analysis. Researchers must apply, with access granted on a rolling basis subject to eligibility, capacity and selection. The offer gives selected scientists access to the development environment Google’s own teams have been using to optimize research software and investigate problems in fields including quantum computing and enzyme design. Announcing the rollout on LinkedIn, Google CEO Sundar Pichai described Argon as “our latest frontier model built to tackle complex, long-horizon workflows across software engineering and enterprise knowledge work.”Google’s launch examples range from improving existing code to generating candidates for laboratory testing. The reported results come from Google and early partners, with different evaluation methods and levels of validation.

ConnectWise suspends Cloud Backup service after supply chain attack - The Record from Recorded Future News
IT management software company ConnectWise shut down several of its services this weekend after Microsoft and other cybersecurity companies warned of a supply chain attack impacting its cloud backup system. ConnectWise initially said on Friday that it was investigating “attempts of unauthorized access associated with the ConnectWise Cloud Backup environment,” and confirmed such access on Saturday. Incident responders at cybersecurity firm Huntress said a credential belonging to ConnectWise Cloud Backup was compromised and used to gain access to the customers’ Microsoft 365 environment. Microsoft confirmed in its own statement that threat actors “likely abused permissions previously granted by customers to the application, including highly elevated permissions like Directory. ReadWrite. All.” ConnectWise Cloud Backup is a cloud-based backup and recovery service designed to help protect data in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. The tool needs broad access to mailboxes, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams and other data, according to Huntress.

The housing gap between young people with and without wealthy parents has nearly doubled - Phys.org
Among 30-year-olds with parents in the wealthiest fifth of the population, nearly seven out of ten own their own home. Among those with parents in the least wealthy fifth, the figure is around four out of ten. And the difference has grown. "Financial support from parents is an important ticket into the housing market. And because housing is the most important route to wealth for most people, an early advantage in life can lead to large differences in wealth later on," says Ragnar Juelsrud.
