Canada’s suggested ‘associate membership’ could become a new model for the EU’s non-European allies - CEPS
During his visit to the EU, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney made clear that Canada was seeking a ‘unique alliance’ with Europe. In her State of the Union address, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen went a step further, calling for EU-Canada relations to be taken ‘to the highest level possible’ and giving this ambition a striking name: Canada as the EU’s first ‘associate member’. While it made headlines, the term ‘associate membership’ doesn’t formally exist in the EU Treaties or in the EU’s enlargement framework.

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 11:51PMPeople in the city of Glendora are furious about the early release of convicted rapist and Andrew Luster, the heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune. GLENDORA, Calif. (CNS) -- A Glendora-area state assemblywoman is pledging to push for stronger safeguards for communities after word that Max Factor cosmetics heir and convicted serial rapist Andrew Luster was released from state prison this month and was residing there. California's Megan's Law website confirmed the 62-year-old Luster was living in Glendora. Assemblywoman Blanca E. Rubio said Luster's release "is disgusting and unacceptable. I am working closely with local officials and law enforcement to stay informed about the circumstances of Luster's release, the conditions of his parole and the measures being taken to protect the residents of Glendora and surrounding communities. "Luster was originally sentenced to 124 years in prison after he was convicted in 2003 of 86 felony counts related to rendering women unconscious with the date rape drug GHB and committing rape, sodomy and oral copulation on them while they were unconscious. Evidence included video he made of himself in those acts.
