Frustration and disbelief. That is the devastating reality Monday morning for the three daughters of an Abbotsford couple murdered in their own home.

A BC Supreme Court judge has ruled that a section of Canada’s Criminal Code regarding parole eligibility for multiple murderers is unconstitutional, throwing a curveball into the case and delaying the final sentencing until next year.

Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov ‘disappointed’ with being benched by coach Marco Sturm but ready to put it behind him

DALLAS — Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov was “disappointed” with being benched by coach Marco Sturm for Saturday night’s victory over the Kings in Los Angeles, but now he’s ready to put it in the rear-view. Sturm made the call, saying Zadorov needed to be better disciplined on the ice after he took a four-minute double minor (elbowing, roughing) at the end of the second period with Boston trailing in Anaheim Friday night. The penalty carried over to the first three minutes of the third period. The Bruins killed it and came from behind to defeat the Ducks. “Obviously, when you have 900 games in this league and 14 years, you don’t want to be in this situation and you feel disappointed, you feel disgusted about it,” Zadorov told the Globe following Monday’s practice at American Airlines Center. “But at the end of the day, it’s a business, so you’ve just got to move on.”Get Sports AlertsThe latest sports news and Globe's most interesting reporting and commentary right to your inbox. Delay in Abbotsford double murder sentencing: ‘Like a gut punch’

WARNING: Details in this story are disturbing. Discretion is advised. Family and friends of an Abbotsford couple killed in a 2022 home invasion packed a courtroom on Monday morning, expecting to hear the sentences handed down for the accused. However, they will now have to wait four more months. In May, three men were found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of 77-year-old Arnold De Jong and 76-year-old Joanne De Jong. The court earlier heard that Arnold died by asphyxiation, with his entire head and face wrapped in duct tape, while Joanne was bludgeoned and her throat was slashed. Two of the accused, Abhijeet Singh and Khushveer Toor, were hired by the De Jongs to do some exterior cleaning of their Abbotsford home about a month before their deaths.
