BISMARCK, N. D. (KFYR) - Fall seasons in western and central North Dakota are getting warmer, and local meteorologists say the records prove it. Data shows autumn temperatures across the region are trending warmer, with overnight lows staying well above freezing into October. Forecasters say while the first frost and freeze typically hit western and central North Dakota by mid to late September, several areas only saw their first freeze this week. “I think it’s just like a slow change in the pattern overall. You’re kind of seeing the slow cycle because I did some homework a little bit,” said Heidi Werosta, meteorologist. “And if you look at the years of 1990 to 2024 overall, when you look at the fall season, which is September, October, November, we have seen an increase when you combine the highs and lows, average that out of 3.1 degrees above normal. Meanwhile, then you look at the spring season, March, April, and May, we are looking at a decrease in temperatures of 1.8 degrees.”Werosta said 2021 holds the record for the warmest fall in the region, adding that morning low temperatures continue to see the biggest climb. Police said he was unable to perform field sobriety tests due to his injuries and vomited before he was placed under arrest, records show. A police report filed in court said officers arrived at the crash to find Oliver’s Lincoln Navigator overturned. Oliver ”was sitting on a chair that a civilian had brought out for him,” the report said. “Shawn was observed to have a laceration on the right side of his head and was bleeding.”Police also spotted a badly damaged gray Camry and an extensively damaged red Camry. The latter vehicle “was pushed back, causing it to collide into another parked vehicle,” police said. “In total, 5 parked vehicles were involved.”One witness, police said, described being behind Oliver’s Navigator at a red light before the crash. “The witness stated that when the light turned green, the Navigator remained stopped, he then had to put his car in reverse in order to see if the light was green,” police said.
