The next contract of defenceman Quinn Hughes has been a talking point for some time and played a major role in his trade from the Vancouver Canucks to the Minnesota Wild last December. Hughes is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season and had told then-Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin he did not intend to re-sign with the team. On the eve of Hughes’ return to Vancouver as a member of the Wild, the star blueliner indicated he might be willing to stick around in Minnesota. When asked about his contract situation by The Athletic’s Joe Smith in Seattle, Hughes said his feet are “planted” in Minnesota and indicated he wouldn’t be surprised if something happens soon. “I’m where I’ve always been. I’m excited right now. My two feet are planted in Minnesota and you know, something could happen soon,” he said. “I’m not really sure. I’m really enjoying playing here… there’s a lot of things that are set up nicely here for me to have success individually and as a team. We have a great team.

Alexander Volkanovski is still the greatest after his latest title defense as he ended Movsar Evloev’s undefeated run with a second-round stoppage in the UFC 333 main event. As usual, Volkanovski showed off tremendous takedown defense and immaculate striking as he picked Evloev apart on the feet. I feel the love and it’s paid off now. The love around the world is incredible.”After tasting defeat for the first time, Evloev was understandably upset but he paid homage to Volkanovski on a job well done. “It was a terrible fight,” Evloev said. “He’s a good one. Older, stronger, better, he’s truly a legend. I’m grateful for this opportunity to be here.
