Double Fine's first post-Xbox title, first-person Soulslikes and other new indie games worth checking out - Engadget

Just a couple of months after departing Xbox, Double Fine has a new game out. Thank You Bus Driver is the first project from Double Fine Action Labs, the studio's label for smaller, experimental games.
In this chaotic riff on Crazy Taxi, you play as a bus driver who yearns for gratitude from unruly passengers. During your journey, your employer will add more rules for you to enforce, such as making sure passengers don't fall asleep or clip their toenails during a ride. You can try to keep them in line with a slap (which reminds me of the delightful Thank Goodness You're Here) or kick them off the bus. All the while, you'll be trying to reach your next stop before the time runs out.

Valor Mortis review - this Napoleonic first-person swordfighter is one of the freshest Soulslikes in years
Well, I say "freshest. " In its ickily up-close vision of Napoleonic battlefields, swapping the boring old bubonic plague for a fleshy, pustulating necro-blight, Valor Mortis is as horrid and grim as a standard Soulslike rulebook would compel. At the same time, One More Level’s first-person take on campfires and attack-pattern combat does feel like a game striking out on its own, and not just through its unusual choice of perspective. If anything, there are decisions here that might have FromSoft purists calling for the guillotine. Yet it’s almost all in service of an intentionally tighter, more intimate kind of supernatural action, which – while lacking the immaculate complexity of Souls masterworks – serves up enough tense sabre duels to see the whole thing through.

Forget the Tesla Roadster: here are 20 EV sportscars on sale now (or coming soon) - Top Gear
Alpine A110 EVExpected on sale: 2027Can a car as utterly defined by its light weight as the Alpine A110 really work as an EV? Alpine reckons so, and we’re not far off finding out for ourselves, as the next generation of the connoisseur’s favourite sports car is due for reveal very soon ahead of it going on sale next year. We’ve already seen a prototype whizzing its way up the Goodwood FoS hill with F1 driver Pierre Gasly behind the wheel, who seemed to be a fan, but then he is being paid to say nice things about it. Still, Alpine has made lots of positive noises about keeping weight down to around 1,400kg and giving it a traditional mid-engined sports car balance, so we’re cautiously optimistic about this one. Core values: the Austrian scheme bringing forgotten apple varieties back to life - The Guardian
Only about 10 of the 2,000 types of apples growing in Austria can be found in supermarkets among the polished, pristine fruit usually on display – a sad ratio according to fans of historic varieties being primed for a comeback. One of the country’s biggest retail chains has embarked on a pilot rollout of unusual and long-forgotten apples enjoyed in previous centuries, riding an international trend of reviving heirloom fruit and vegetables. The Spar group is working with produce distributor Frutura to return two rare varieties to shops: Ilzer Rosenapfel (Ilzer Rose apple), dating from about 1840 from the southern state of Styria, and Falchs Gulderling, identified in the 1870s in South Tirol. “Farming never stands still,” said Frutura co-managing director Katrin Hohensinner-Häupl, calling it a dance between knowledge passed down through generations and innovation. Rediscovering antique apples using modern cultivation methods are “bringing their history and flavour back to life,” she said.
