Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, rocker Jon Bon Jovi, and other star-studded guests packed a Manhattan fundraiser Wednesday that raised $32 million for Robert Kraft’s Blue Square Alliance Against Hate, the group said. The alliance said the fundraising haul “is a record for the largest single-night fundraising total in Blue Square Alliance’s history.”The group also documented the festivities on its social media channels. “Joined by passionate allies including Tom Brady, Michael Rubin, and Jon Bon Jovi, we sent a clear message that antisemitism and hate has no place in our communities,” the alliance said via Facebook. Honored also, the alliance continued, “was Brian Moynihan, CEO of Bank of America, for his continuing commitment towards this works. Together, our voices are louder and stronger in the fight against hate.”Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, launched the alliance, initially called the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism, in 2019, and it was last year rebranded as the Blue Square Alliance Against Hate. Federal judge orders Trump administration to halt noncitizen voting investigation in 9 states

A federal judge in California has ordered the Trump administration to halt investigations in nine states into whether noncitizens are registered to vote. U. S. District Court Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in Oakland found the government’s effort is relying on data that is full of errors and that it’s leading to intimidation of groups performing voter assistance efforts. She said it should be halted until polls close on Election Day, Nov. 3. She put her ruling, which was made Wednesday, on hold until Friday to give the administration a chance to appeal. The ruling applies to investigations in California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin. It comes as the Trump administration has been hunting for noncitizen voters throughout the country in the months leading into the midterm elections. The administration has signaled that it’s a major problem, when in fact it’s quite rare, as even its own investigations have shown. Trump blasts 76ers' star LeBron James as 'disgrace' for not standing still during national anthem

President Donald Trump on Thursday accused LeBron James of disrespecting the United States after the NBA star appeared to continue his warmups while the national anthem was performed before Philadelphia’s season opener on Tuesday. “I said right from the beginning that he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE,” Trump said of James in a social media post sharing the video. “LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!”James appeared to practice a golf swing and jump shot as The Star-Spangled Banner was performed at Tuesday’s game in New York. James, starting his first season with Philadelphia, was lined up alongside teammates who mostly stood still during the anthem. Trump and James have been critical of each another for years, occasionally trading public swipes. James had not made a public comment or a social media post as of Thursday afternoon about Trump's gripe. The 41-year-old James, in his record 24th NBA season, was set to make his home debut for the Sixers Thursday night against Cleveland.

Key Trump health adviser resigns before midterm elections

WASHINGTON -- Calley Means, a leader of the Make America Healthy Again movement, resigned from the Trump administration Thursday, signaling a further erosion of a coalition that helped propel President Donald Trump to power a second time. Means, a top adviser at the Department of Health and Human Services, was a key official behind policies around food quality, including an effort to increase disclosure of the chemicals in food, remove artificial food dyes and ban soda from the federal food assistance program known as SNAP. He also worked on an executive order to support the development of psychedelic medications. “I leave with tremendous respect for President Trump and R. F. K. Jr. -- two historic figures who are committed to confronting a corrupt D. C. bureaucracy that is doing everything possible to protect the status quo,” Means said in a statement, referring to Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Get Starting PointA guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday.
