BUNIA, DR Congo, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- At an Ebola treatment center in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), saving lives sometimes begins with persuading frightened patients not to flee. For clinical psychologist Theophraste Tetunabu, fear can be as formidable an obstacle as the disease itself. Some patients are terrified of dying, others struggle with isolation from their families, while some become so distressed that they resist the very treatment meant to save them. "When patients are told they have tested positive, they fear death. Some may even decide to leave or run away," Tetunabu told Xinhua.

Trauma-informed care must be mandatory in long-term care - Policy Options
Long-term care (LTC) facilities are actually people’s homes. It’s where many Canadians live out their final days. But not all the residents in LTC receive the specialized care they need. Often seniors’ behaviour that could be the result of past traumas is written off as a symptom of dementia. Care aides need training to identify the difference and provide trauma-informed care. Accrediting agencies and Canada’s new national long-term care standards include providing trauma-informed care. But that standard is voluntary. It must be made mandatory.

Number of seizures of weight-loss medicines rises again as parallel market causes concern - Belga English
Meanwhile, the patient association Vox Obesity says it has seen a growing number of enquiries from people looking to obtain these treatments on the parallel market, after the authorities recently ruled out reimbursement for Wegovy and Mounjaro for the treatment of obesity. "We've noticed that many people are disappointed that reimbursement has not been granted," says its president, Pascale Brughmans. She says many patients contact the association to find out how to obtain these treatments outside official channels. Some become targets for fraudsters. "People who post public comments under my video are later approached privately by scammers," she says. The FAMHP notes that these medicines are offered for sale on fraudulent websites and social media. Their composition and traceability cannot be guaranteed. Some products may contain a different active substance from the one advertised, have an incorrect dosage or contain no active ingredient at all. Serious adverse effects have also been reported after the use of pens containing insulin instead of semaglutide.
