Giant robotic claws will grab dead satellites in space - Fox News

Pentagon confirms US weapons deployed in space in major revelation Peter Doocy reports on the Pentagon's public confirmation of US space weapons. Former NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore joins to analyze the growing space arms race. Wilmore discusses the strategic importance of controlling the exo-atmosphere and explains the challenges of kinetic and non-kinetic weaponry as Russia and China expand their space capabilities. NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles! Space is getting crowded, and I'm not talking about astronauts. Thousands of pieces of junk are circling Earth at incredible speeds. Some are dead satellites. Others are leftover rocket parts or fragments from past collisions. Any one of them could cause serious trouble if it hits a working spacecraft. Now Britain has a pretty wild solution. It's developing a robotic spacecraft with giant claws that can grab dead satellites and move them toward a fiery end in Earth's atmosphere. Think of a garbage truck in orbit, except this one has to track down its trash while both objects are traveling thousands of miles per hour. The UK is putting roughly $81 million behind the project.

Three giant black holes discovered in a galaxy from the dawn of time - Science Daily

Astronomers have discovered three actively feeding supermassive black holes in a single galaxy more than 12.5 billion light-years from Earth. The finding, made by an international research team led by the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE), offers a rare glimpse of how enormous black holes grew and interacted during the universe's earliest stages. The black holes are located in a galaxy known as J0148-4214. All three are actively accumulating matter, which spirals toward them through surrounding disks of gas and other material. Because the galaxy is so distant, its light has traveled through space for approximately 12.5 billion years before reaching Earth. This means astronomers are observing it as it existed just 1.2 billion years after the Big Bang.
