Brewers’ Misiorowski sets World Series velocity record on his first pitch - TSN

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski broke the record for fastest World Series pitch with the very first offering of this year's Fall Classic, a 103.5 mph fastball from the Milwaukee Brewers' fireballer to the Tampa Bay Rays' Yandy Díaz on Friday night. Misiorowski allowed a run and four hits over five innings with three strikeouts, leaving with a 2-1 lead. His first pitch, taken for a ball above the strike zone, was listed at 103.4 mph on the stadium video boards but clocked at 103.5 by MLB’s Statcast system. Aroldis Chapman of the Chicago Cubs had set the mark for a Series pitcher at 103.2 mph in the ninth inning of Game 2 in 2016, an offering that resulted in a groundout to second by Cleveland's Coco Crisp. A 24-year-old right-hander whose heat has captivated the sport since his debut in June 2025, Misiorowski easily outdistanced the previous high by a starting pitcher in the Series since tracking started in 2008. The New York Mets’ Noah Syndergaard threw a 101.1 mph pitch to Kansas City’s Ben Zobrist that was taken for a ball in the first inning of Game 3 in 2015. Misiorowski reached 100 mph with 38 pitches, topping the previous Series high of 24 by Chapman in Game 5 of 2016.

Brewers tab Jacob Misiorowski for NLCS Game 1 - NBC Sports

Jacob Misiorowski will start Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers on Sunday. Misiorowski will square off against Dodgers trade deadline acquisition Tarik Skubal, who was reportedly pursued by the Brewers prior to the deal with Los Angeles, to kick off the best-of-seven opener in Milwaukee. Logan Henderson will start Game 2, and the plan is for Robert Gasser to get the nod in Game 3. There are plenty of narratives here, but the most compelling to monitor is whether Misiorowski can go shut down Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup multiple times to help lead the Brewers to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982. The hard-throwing 24-year-old allowed two runs over four innings during his playoff debut against the Padres last weekend.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Washington Capitals - NHL Game Recap - October 24, 2026 - CBS Sports

WASHINGTON (AP) Alex Tuch scored two goals, including the winner in overtime, to lead the Washington Capitals to a win over the Buffalo Sabres, 4-3 on Saturday night. Charlie Lindgren made 18 saves for the Capitals. Tuch opened the scoring for Washington when a pass bounced off Tage Thompson’s stick and into his own net. Dylan Strome scored 2:59 into the second period, then once more with 2:36 left in the period. Tuch was acquired this summer by the Capitals from the Sabres via sign-and-trade. He signed an eight-year, $84 million deal to help bolster the Capitals' offense. Jack Quinn and Josh Doan scored early for Buffalo to put the visitors up by two. The Capitals’ offense found its footing, though, and turned up the pressure on the Sabres’ defense to gain the lead in the second period, only to have Noah Ostlund tie it once again 2:20 into the third period. The game remained tied through the remainder of the third period, despite multiple power play opportunities and scoring chances for both teams. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 30 saves for the Sabres. The Capitals were coming off a loss to the previously winless Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.
