Globe endorses Governor Maura Healey for reelection

In a state with a healthy Republican Party, this might have spelled disaster for the Democratic governor, Maura Healey. But this is Massachusetts, and so Healey is ahead of her Republican rival, Mike Minogue, by formidable margins in most polls. Massachusetts voters’ exceptionally dim view of the Republican president is surely one reason: A recent Suffolk University poll found that 7 in 10 voters rate Trump unfavorably. But on balance, her determination to stand up to White House bullying has been the right thing for Massachusetts. For that reason and others, the Globe editorial board endorses her for another four years in office.

(Cassandra Yanez-Leyton/CBC)In many ways, Jibril Adamu is expected to work like a robot, he says. As a rideshare driver, an app bosses him around Montreal for eight hours a day. His remaining time is filled by his duties as a building janitor and father of three — and by his poetry. A lifelong poet at heart, he says that when he realized life wouldn't let him write full time, he decided to seize the brief moments in between rides to hone his craft.
