A kitchen remodel in Pembroke leans into English cottage charm
Kati and Nick Tinkham had been searching for an antique home with character, and in early 2021, they closed on a three-bedroom Cape Cod-style home built in 1775 in Pembroke. Despite a nearly year-long search that included multiple rejected offers, they felt lucky. “In 1999, the plumbing, electrical, and drywall were updated, but the original floors, fireplaces, and other details were maintained,” Kati says. Still, the kitchen, with its honey-colored maple cabinets, swirling gray Formica countertops, and mottled-beige tiled floor, needed a redo. Moreover, the cooking area was separated from the eat-in portion of the space by a wall with a pass-through window and a step down. It was disjointed and unwelcoming, says Kati, who specializes in kitchen design with an English aesthetic through her firm, Mountain Ave Interiors. Last year, the couple renovated, taking cues from elsewhere in the home. “Aesthetically, our goal was to create a kitchen with history and charm,” Kati says. “A kitchen that looked like it could have been here for years.” Other inspiration came from classic English cottages and the furniture-like collections of English kitchen company deVOL.

Thieves target another landscaper, stealing equipment in Eastvale days after Brentwood theft
EASTVALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Landscapers in Eastvale and Brentwood have lost expensive lawn equipment in quick thefts captured on security video this month, leaving both victims without machinery vital to their work. It appears both thefts were executed by the same criminals. Video from an Eastvale home shows two hooded, masked thieves lifting a large piece of lawn equipment into the back of a white SUV before driving away. The equipment belonged to a neighborhood landscaper, according to resident Sylvia Renteria. “He went to do a home, and when he did the front, while he was at the back of the house, he said they stole it — went to the front and saw it was gone,” Renteria said. The theft happened on Tuesday, Oct. 20, around 11 a.m. outside an Eastvale home in the Jurupa Valley. The thieves were gone by the time deputies arrived. Renteria said the stolen lawnmower was new and had cost the landscaper nearly $3,000. “He had purchased this lawnmower, cost him almost $3,000. It was very high tech, and he was so proud of himself because it helped him a lot,” she said.
