‘This is terrorism’: daytime Russian strike hits science academy in Kyiv - The Guardian

A Russian drone hit the National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv on Monday, killing at least one person, in the latest daytime attack on Ukraine’s capital. Flames tore through the historic building as people clambered out of first- and second-floor windows to escape, in dramatic scenes increasingly familiar in the heavily bombarded city. At least one person was killed and three others were wounded, according to Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, who said the injured had been taken to hospital. The 19th-century building stands close to the German embassy, the National Opera, St Volodymyr’s Cathedral and several government buildings. Anatoliy Zagorodny, the president of the national academy, said the blast struck while many staff members were inside. Standing outside the burning building, he said he did not know why Russia had targeted a leading centre of scientific research. “We are not connected with the military. This is an attack on science. It is terrorism,” he said. He feared some of his colleagues could still be trapped inside the academy. While the sciences building is a civilian scientific institution, it has longstanding ties to Ukraine’s defence sector.

Contradicting Trump, Pope Leo says artificial intelligence safety concerns not 'fake news' - BNN Bloomberg

Published: September 28, 2026 at 9:59p.m. EDTPope Leo addresses a crowd on the growth of AI during his four-day trip to France. ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE — Pope Leo XIV said Monday that concerns about artificial intelligence going rogue are not “fake news” and should be taken seriously, insisting that safety issues raised by AI experts should be discussed and acted on. Leo, who dedicated his first encyclical to AI and protecting humanity in its wake, was asked during a press conference about what the United States and China especially should be doing to prevent AI from posing catastrophic risks to humanity. U. S. President Donald Trump has called concerns about AI going rogue a “hoax.”“This is a problem that, I think, we need to sit down and talk about,” the American pope told reporters returning home from France. “We can’t just sit back and pretend nothing is going to happen.”Trump has been a champion of AI, often warning that the United States must remain ahead of China in the technological arms race. He has said efforts to limit the technology were part of a “conspiracy” by his political opponents.

PwC's huge survey of 50,000 workers says AI is splitting employees into 4 distinct groups - Business Insider

Is AI making you a "frontrunner" or are you working in the "engine room? " Is AI turning you into a "frontrunner" or are you working in the "engine room? "A huge survey carried out by consulting giant PwC found that AI is allowing a small group of workers to pull away from the rest of the workforce and dividing employees into four distinct categories. The Big Four firm published its "2026 Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey" on Tuesday. It surveyed almost 50,000 workers across 48 countries and 29 sectors between May and June 2026. AI use is rising, the survey found. 64% of workers said they had used AI at work in the past 12 months, up 10 percentage points from a year earlier, and the share using generative AI every day rose from 14% to 22%. But the survey revealed a widening divide in how workers are getting the tools and opportunities to benefit from AI. Based on the responses, PwC identified a group it called "front-runners," which make up 14% of those surveyed. The front-runners have in-demand skills and reported getting strong benefits from AI in their work.

Jonathan Lipnicki’s “Primetime” role will make you do a double take - Yahoo

Key PointsPrimetime, inspired by the NBC series To Catch a Predator, features a talented ensemble headlined by Robert Pattinson as host Chris Hansen. The most surprising face in the new A24 thriller is former child star Jonathan Lipnicki. Best known for Jerry Maguire, Lipnicki has continued acting, though he's been open about the challenges of finding good roles as an adult. A24's Primetime has our undivided attention. The new thriller is earning critical acclaim for its compelling depiction of the controversial NBC series To Catch a Predator, as well as Robert Pattinson's riveting portrayal of host Chris Hansen. (For the record, Hansen would like it known that he doesn't approve). But Pattinson's great performance is one of several in Primetime, which features an excellent ensemble cast including Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and indie rocker Phoebe Bridgers. But one cast member in particular is catching audiences off guard with his surprising turn as one of the men targeted by To Catch a Predator's decoys: former child star Jonathan Lipnicki. Lipnicki is so unrecognizable in Primetime that many viewers may not even realize it's him until the credits roll.

Flutter Entertainment PLC Stock (FLUT) Moved Down by 7.20% on Sep 28: Facts Behind the Movement - TradingKey

What is driving Flutter Entertainment PLC (FLUT)’s stock price down today? Flutter Entertainment experienced severe downward pressure and significant intraday volatility following an abrupt regulatory blow in one of its key international growth markets. The company disclosed that it was forced to halt its online sports betting and iGaming operations in Brazil after the Brazilian government enacted a provisional executive measure banning online betting and gaming nationwide. This sudden operational suspension rattled investor confidence and raised broader concerns over the trajectory of the firm's global expansion strategy. In its official disclosure, management outlined the financial fallout from the stoppage, noting that an extended shutdown through the end of the year would cut revenue and adjusted EBITDA. The company is also assessing potential non-cash accounting impacts on goodwill and intangible assets associated with its Brazilian operations. This regulatory update compounds existing market skepticism surrounding Flutter's recent financial performance, following previous guidance cuts and profitability challenges that have weighed on overall investor sentiment.

Northern Golf Association celebrates one century, looks with optimism to next - Sudbury Star

It may have taken a little less than a decade for the Northern Golf Association and Golf Ontario to work through the tedious process of mending fences and restoring trust, a journey that would lead to a critical partnership forged through a memorandum of understanding in 2018 to ensure the growth and prosperity of the sport in Northern Ontario. At the end of the day, that still allowed for the celebration of 90-plus very good years for the NGA — along with a challenging decade or so — in Sudbury last week. One hundred years were feted by many of the greatest names in Northern Ontario golf and their families, one and all gathering at the Idylwylde Golf and Country Club this past Thursday, on hand for the inaugural class of the Northern Ontario Golf Hall of Fame as part of the NGA centennial celebration.
