2026 MTV VMAs red carpet: The best, boldest and most 'wait, what?!' outfits, from Belmont Cameli's Canadian tuxedo to Taylor Swift's stunning sparkles - Yahoo

The MTV Video Music Awards red carpet has always been more daring than demure. It's given us Lady Gaga's meat dress, Britney Spears's biker chic, Lil' Kim's purple pastie, Pamela Anderson's pink feathery take on the Mad Hatter, Miley's metallic suspenders (and pretty much nothing else) and the first of many, many (seriously, so many) Madonna iterations:  the "boy toy" bride. This isn't the place for classic tuxes or basic black dresses — give us your ripped-up, your rocker, your revealing. While MTV itself has radically transformed over the years, the VMAs' dress code hasn't. This year's attendees — including the ever-evolving Madonna — kept up the tradition, delivering plenty of leather, lace, exposed skin and looks that required a second glance. Where Code Meets Capital - Carnegie Mellon University

In the finance industry, success or failure, profit or loss can hinge on exceedingly fine margins. A fraction of a percentage point or a fraction of a second can be decisive, and the often zero-sum competition drives market players to exploit every advantage available. This search for a competitive advantage makes the field of finance ripe for automated tools and the edge advanced algorithms can bestow. Finance companies and fund managers have been using machine learning tools since at least the 1980s. Credit companies employ machine learning to nip fraud in the bud. And high-frequency trading — a controversial but prevalent form of investing that depends on massive numbers of low-return trades — depends on algorithmic tools. As artificial intelligence becomes more sophisticated, many experts in the finance industry have been eager to put it to work to handle increasingly heavy data workloads, find hidden trends and seek useful information.

Alcohol is Canada’s biggest drug problem. So why aren’t people getting help? - CBC

LISTEN | Why treatment for alcohol-use disorder is still falling short in Canada :The Current24:01How booze is Canada’s biggest drug problemJordan Kawchuk didn’t imagine having a roommate at the age of 54, let alone more than a dozen of them. But for six months at the start of 2026, his home was the Vancouver Island Therapeutic Community (VITC), a treatment centre for men in Nanaimo, B. C. When Kawchuk, a writer and former TV producer, met with CBC’s Audio Documentary Unit during a visit to the treatment centre, he was wearing a blue, button-down shirt, his hair neatly coiffed. He said he often gets mistaken for a member of the staff. But it was actually his second time at this facility and the fifth in-patient program he’s tried during his decades-long struggle with alcohol-use disorder. Kawchuk has a long list of things he’s lost to alcohol over the years. He says he’s been fired from countless jobs; he’s lost a lot of money and trust. But he says the hardest part was losing his marriage and the opportunity to live full time with his daughters when they were growing up. And he’s far from alone.
