Sugar Amplifies Damage Done to Gut Health by Antibiotics - NYU Langone Health
Eating sweets while taking antibiotics may worsen the harm done by the drugs to the normal community of bacteria in the gut, a new study found. The work centers on the intestinal microbiome, which harbors bacterial species that co-evolved with humans to live in the digestive tract, help digest food, and support the immune system. Antibiotics, among the most prescribed drugs globally, are known to eliminate helpful bacteria alongside harmful species, in some cases letting harmful ones dominate.

NASA, International Partners Advance Work on Space Crops - NASA Science (.gov)
NASA, CSA (Canadian Space Agency), and the German Aerospace Center signed a joint statement of intent to begin coordinated, preparatory work toward an Earth-based demonstrator to learn how to grow crops on the Moon, which will be essential to helping astronauts go farther and stay longer in space. The Lunar Agriculture Module-Ground Test Demonstrator aims to develop the technologies needed to grow space crops and study how they perform under atmospheres and controlled environments similar to those expected during missions at Moon Base. Through Moon Base, NASA and its partners will build the infrastructure to support an enduring human presence near the Moon's South Pole, advancing science and technology while preparing for future human missions to Mars.

New Guide, "How Do I Get ChatGPT To Recommend My Business?", Strategy Revealed - markets.businessinsider.com
Authority Acquisition's new guide explains how ChatGPT recommends businesses based on discoverable published content, not paid placement, and outlines steps for expert businesses to improve AI search visibility. Torrance, United States, September 30, 2026 -- Authority Acquisition, a firm that helps expert businesses build the systems behind their expertise, has published a guide explaining what determines whether ChatGPT recommends a business. The guide addresses a common misconception: that paid placement, secret prompts, or guaranteed submissions can secure a mention. According to the guide, ChatGPT can only recommend what it can find published on the open web. The full guide is available at https://authorityacquisition.co/mc/013The distinction between paid influence and genuine discoverability matters because OpenAI has drawn a line between the two. OpenAI began testing ads in ChatGPT in the United States in February 2026, and has since expanded to additional countries.

The chemicals in everyday plastics are harming our health and almost none are regulated, new report and film reveal - Environmental Justice Foundation
The chemicals inside everyday plastic products, from food containers and coffee cups to children's toys, threaten human health on a vast scale, and almost none are controlled, according to a new report and film from the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF). The findings make the case for a world where the products we use every day are safe by design; today, they are not. EJF's research assessed the chemicals used in plastics and found that 92.8% of those studied present a high risk to human health. These chemicals have been linked to cancer, infertility, heart disease and lower IQ in children, yet more than half, 54.2% of the high-risk chemicals identified, are regulated neither at the international level nor in any of the four places reviewed: the European Union, Japan, South Korea and the US state of California.

Hurricane Nolo slammed Hawaii with wind, waves and rain
Hurricane Nolo became the fourth named system to bring heavy rain, gusty winds and large waves to Hawaii this hurricane season. Its lifecycle was more interesting than the others. GenesisHurricane Nolo actually has a more unique story than most tropical systems. It was actually first monitored way back on September 8 as a low area of development. The map below shows the yellow blob that would eventually become Nolo, but we have to a wait a while to see the name. This is the East Pacific just before 8 a.m. on September 8. The yellow area would eventually become Nolo, but a lot of time would have to pass before then. By 2 p.m. PDT on September 13, Tropical Depression Fifteen-E formed in the East Pacific. But the system didn't last long. Just two days later, the tropical depression lost its organization due to moving into higher shear. Shear, or changes in wind speed and direction as you move higher in the atmosphere, hinders tropical development, so this system fell apart and was no longer receiving advisories from the National Hurricane Center on September 15 at 8 p.m. Tropical Depression Fifteen-E first formed on September 13 but then dissipated just two days later.
