Together, this trio of Canadian banking giants has as much as $6 trillion worth of assets on their balance sheets. With vast portfolios of mortgages, auto loans and other debt products for consumers and businesses, and client networks spanning Canada and the U. S., these goliath institutions have a unique vantage point from which to monitor the impact of tariffs.
The Dyson sphere was first proposed by physicist Freeman Dyson in 1960.
There are many ways to scour the stars for intelligent life. You can search for radio signatures whose repetitions suggest intentional design, or examine a planet that orbits its star in a so-called Goldilocks Zone conducive for habitation. One of the wildest (but still hypothetically plausible) scenarios involves what’s known as a Dyson sphere.
Canada is adding to the list of U. S. goods that will be subject to Canadian counter-tariffs a day after it took American seafood off the list.
On Tuesday, Canada responded to U. S. President Donald Trump’s repeated trade war escalations and 50 per cent tariffs with counter-tariffs on more than 700 American goods amounting to $27.6 billion and rolling out supports for workers affected by the trade war. Since then, Ottawa has tweaked the list. “We’ve been working with and listening to stakeholders and provinces all throughout this process. That has informed our response and crucially helped us adjust our support measures to ensure our sectors and workers’ immediate needs and reality are acted on,” a spokesperson for Finance Canada said Friday. “This decision was made in the interest of strengthening Canada’s sectors and our tariff response — and to better match the American tariffs dollar for dollar, rate for rate,” the statement added. The collapse of trade talks between Canada and the United States is the latest reminder that we live in an era of uncertainty and unpredictability. In only a few years, geopolitical rivalry, supply-chain disruptions, technological change and a series of economic shocks have overturned long-held assumptions about globalization, security and prosperity.
That upheaval is affecting us all in so many ways. Households are facing higher prices. People are less certain about their jobs and anxious about the future. Businesses are more cautious about investing. It’s unsettling. The world we thought we understood no longer works the way it used to.
The Director-General (DG) of the World Health Organization (WHO) is hereby transmitting the report of the second meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) Emergency Committee (Committee) regarding the epidemic of Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus (BVD) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), held on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, from 12:00 to 17:00 CEST. The DG welcomes the Statement by the Committee, presented at the beginning of its report, and expresses his most sincere gratitude to the Chair, Members, and Advisors of the Committee. Concurring with the advice expressed by the Committee during the meeting, the DG determined that the BVD epidemic in the DRC continues to meet the criteria of a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), but not those of a pandemic emergency. Accordingly, on 24 August 2026, the DG, considering the advice offered by the Committee, issued temporary recommendations to States Parties, available here.
Hello Pearl, a global leader in AI-powered dental diagnostics, has introduced Second Opinion for Kids, a paediatric-focused version of its clinically validated AI-assisted radiologic detection platform designed to enhance patient communication, improve engagement and support earlier intervention in children's oral healthcare. Building on the existing paediatric capabilities of the Second Opinion platform, the new software analyses dental radiographs in real time to identify radiographic findings consistent with dental pathology, including early carious lesions. While maintaining the platform's established AI-driven diagnostic support, Second Opinion for Kids incorporates child-friendly visual overlays using animated ‘Sugar Bugs' characters to help clinicians communicate radiographic findings in a way that is accessible to younger patients. The platform has been developed to address one of paediatric dentistry's ongoing challenges: effectively communicating clinical findings to children while reducing dental anxiety and improving cooperation during examination and treatment planning.

C.'s forestry industry is, by most accounts, dire. While there are many factors driving the decline, recent U. S. tariffs haven't helped. But Donald Trump is hardly the first U.
