Cole Palmer says he feels back to his best after a promising start to life under Xabi Alonso - Sky Sports

Cole Palmer says this is the best he has felt "in ages" after starting the season strongly under Xabi Alonso at Chelsea - and he is putting the tricky previous campaign behind him. The 24-year-old endured a difficult 2025-26 season, picking up a groin issue which saw him play just twice between August and December. And while he ended up with 10 Premier League goals, a run of one goal in eight games to end the campaign saw him miss out on England's World Cup squad.

US-Canada tensions simmer over trade row and Lake Ontario renaming, with China falsely dragged into dispute - Global Times

A person takes a picture of the newly unveiled sign for Lake Ontario at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026. Photo: VCGFrom an escalating trade war to a dispute over the naming of Lake Ontario, tensions between the US and Canada have continued to deepen. Yet some voices in the US have sought to draw China into the dispute, portraying Beijing as a potential "winner" from the widening rift. Chinese experts, however, say that distorting risks reversing cause and effect: It is the growing strain between Washington and Ottawa that is pushing Canada to look elsewhere, rather than China driving the two longtime allies apart. In the latest move, Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Saturday erected a sign by Lake Ontario that reads "Lake Ontario - Now and Always" and criticized US President Donald Trump after he signed an executive order to rename the body of water that borders the Canadian province and the state of New York. The US president signed an executive order on Thursday seeking to change its name to Lake America and has shared a series of AI-generated videos about the lake that straddles both countries.

I ranked Canada's 5 biggest cities after visiting them all this year — There's a clear winner - Narcity

In a whirlwind of summer travel, I've managed to touch down in all five of Canada's biggest cities. None were new to me, but visiting them all within four months gave me the rare chance to compare them side by side — with some unexpected results. Without relying on vague memories of trips past, I saw these cities in a new light. Some moved up in my internal ranking of Canada's best cities, while others tumbled down. Listen, my bottom city has some loud supporters out there — and fair enough — so before you come for me, this ranking is based on what I like. Me, a girl from the small-town Maritimes who likes to dip in and out of metropolises but usually maxes out at around day four. With that said, if you love visiting a city for the food, the vibes, shopping, atmosphere and the food (yes, it's here twice) — then you'll appreciate my very scientific ranking system (or lack thereof). Whether you're deciding where to go on your next girls' trip or you're considering a move — here's my honest breakdown of how Calgary, Ottawa, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal compare right now. I'm starting from the bottom because I need to rip off the Band-Aid.

Trump has given Canada more than he has taken away - The Hub | More Signal. Less Noise.

Canada is in the middle of a trade war with the United States, and it is preoccupying our thoughts. I understand that—lots of people and businesses are being harmed on both sides of the border, and the attack, for some, feels existential. I confess that as someone who closely follows Canada’s energy and resources sectors, it is hard to feel the same level of dread. Canada is a commodity-exporting country, and right now commodities are ripping. Almost everything Canada is a top exporter of has seen strong double-digit gains this year, and Donald Trump’s policies and incursions are largely to thank. Canada is very likely to enjoy a decade-long boom.

University Computer Science department remains hopeful in the age of AI - The Cavalier Daily

According to National Student Clearinghouse, undergraduate enrollment in traditional information and computer science degrees at four-year institutions fell by 8.1 percent in the fall of 2025 compared to fall 2024. However, at the University, the computer science department has not seen a notable change in enrollment for its bachelors, masters or PhD programs — enrollment dipped for undergraduates in 2024 by 140 students but rose again in 2025 and 2026. Nationwide, though, a survey done by the Computing Research Association showed that some computer science department heads across universities nationwide believe that this drop in enrollment could be due to concerns about artificial intelligence displacing computer science jobs.

Of 30 Global Food Goals, We're on Track to Hit Just One - ScienceAlert

The world has 30 global food system targets. Most countries are meeting just one. On a day-to-day, local level, it can be all too easy to forget the perilous state that our planet is in – but the sobering reality checks from science are only getting more frequent and more serious. Now an international team of researchers, under the auspices of the Food Systems Countdown Initiative (FSCI), has looked at how humanity is doing at meeting its internationally agreed food system goals for 2030. There's bad news: we're not on track. In fact, we're very off track. In an FSCI report published in Nature Food, the researchers assessed 44 indicators. Of the 30 with defined global targets, only one is realistically within reach by 2030: mobile phone subscriptions, used as a proxy to assess social connectedness and food system resilience. The report's approach combines progress toward targets agreed by governments and international bodies, with benchmarks between countries, to provide a fuller picture of what's achievable and what isn't.9 of the indicators assessed in the report.

The Best Google Pixel Phone in 2026 - Business Insider

With its increasingly varied phone lineup, Google has an option for everyone. While we've assessed the best Google Pixel phone for most people, the right choice will depend on whether you want a larger or smaller phone, a regular or foldable phone, or a dedicated zoom lens. As we've come to expect from Google's own phones, regardless of price, you can count on all Pixels to exhibit superb camera quality and dependable performance. Google has just refreshed the main Pixel line, launching four new models in August: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. We're in the middle of reviewing all of them right now and will update this guide accordingly once we've put them through our rigorous tests and lived with them for a while. We expect them to replace our picks for the older Pixel 10 line featured in this guide soon, even if they are only looking like iterative upgrades this generation, as stock of last year's phones is already drying up. From our previous testing, the best Google Pixel phone for most people was the Pixel 10 - but expect the Pixel 11 to take that prize very soon.

Tracking viruses and building the science to understand them - Nature

Delia Doreen Djuicy holds a Sherman trap containing a giant pouched rat captured during a field investigation in Cameroon’s Littoral Region. This rodent species is considered a potential reservoir of mpox virus and was sampled as part of efforts to better understand zoonotic transmission. Credit: Delia Doreen DjuicyLire en françaisWhen suspected cases of mpox, viral haemorrhagic fevers, rabies and other viral diseases emerge in Cameroon, samples arrive at my laboratory at the Centre Pasteur du Cameroun in Yaoundé. I test them and report the results to the Ministry of Public Health. But my work does not end with diagnosis. I want to understand where viruses come from, how they spread and why some remain hidden. I initially wanted to become a doctor, inspired by my mother, who was a nurse. But because the nearest university did not have a medical faculty, I studied medical analysis instead. During hospital internships, I became fascinated by the organisms behind disease and realised I wanted to understand infections. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I pursued a professional master’s degree in Yaoundé.
