PoliticsOctober 14, 2026 7:59 pm (Updated:  October 14, 2026 8:20 pm) • 2 min readU. S. President Donald Trump (R) welcomes President Volodymyr Zelensky (L) at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, on Dec. 28, 2025. (Jim Watson / AFP via Getty Images)President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Oct. 14 that Ukraine is "losing a strong partner" as the U. S. eases sanctions on Russia while ramping up pressure on Kyiv. Asked by British host Piers Morgan in an interview whether he feels that Ukraine is losing the U. S., Zelensky said, "Yeah, but not because of us. We can't be weak. ""It's painful when President Trump chooses one ‌side, not our side," he noted. The comments come after Trump announced a deal to purchase diesel from Russia on Oct. 9, while saying that Zelensky should be replaced as Ukraine's leader. When asked whether he felt betrayed by Trump, the Ukrainian leader answered: "Really, ‌yes... but it's a little bit more complicated than just my emotions or my feelings. "Zelensky also said that the apparent decision to throttle Ukraine's Starlink service, operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, is a "big mistake. " Ukraine confirmed on Oct.

Reflecting on the Trump Era - The Intercept

It was dark and cold when I first spotted him, sitting serenely, bathed in soft light. The statue of Abraham Lincoln at his memorial in Washington, D. C., sits 19 feet tall and weighs 120 tons — a white marble monument dedicated to one of the nation’s most intelligent, eloquent, and moral presidents. I hadn’t come to gaze upon Lincoln but at the reflecting pool that bears his name. It’s been transformed into a different kind of landmark by the inane, inarticulate, and completely immoral man who now holds that same office Lincoln did.

Canada’s team will compete on the BC Backyard Ultra course in Sicamous, while runners from 73 other countries start their own races simultaneously. “Team Canada is hungry, healthy and ready to go,” team director Kara Leinweber told Canadian Running. “We have a great mix of experienced backyard athletes who have competed at Nationals before and fresh faces bringing new energy.” Leinweber says the team has lots to give. “I believe this group hasn’t come close to reaching their ceiling, and I’m excited to see just how far they can push themselves and each other.”

Nobel laureate Navi Pillay slams Trump, predicts Netanyahu's arrest and rejects Goebbels comparison - Ynetnews

Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay accused Trump of retaliating over his failure to win the award with sanctions on the ICC, rejected Israel's comparison of her to Nazi propagandist Goebbels and predicted Netanyahu would eventually face trialAFP|Asked what message she would like to convey to Trump, Pillay replied: "Call in your legal advisors to explain to you what international law is and why you must not interfere in the affairs of an independent international court. " She said the sanctions against the court were illegal and intended to undermine its independence and ability to carry out its duties. GalleryNavi Pillay (Photo: Reuters)Last Friday, just hours after Pillay was announced as the Nobel Peace Prize winner, the United States announced unprecedented sanctions against the ICC. Unlike previous sanctions targeting the court's judges and prosecutors, the latest measures are directed at the institution as a whole, with the aim of disrupting its day-to-day operations. The sanctions are expected to disrupt the court's technological infrastructure, banking services and ability to conduct international transactions. The U. S.

Cornell president acknowledges he knew about fraternity sexual assault but didn’t follow up - The Guardian

Michael Kotlikoff, the president of Cornell University, has spoken to the New York Times about sexual assault allegations at the school, acknowledging for the first time that he knew a student had reported being sexually assaulted in November 2024, but did not follow up with the Jane Doe involved in the months after learning about the alleged assault. He also revealed that he did not know she had dropped out of Cornell until she filed a lawsuit last month. Kotlikoff addressed his administration’s handling of the 2024 allegations as the university faces mounting scrutiny and calls for his resignation. “The fact that Jane Doe experienced what she experienced at Cornell is something that I am personally sorry for,” Kotlikoff said in the interview, his first since the woman filed her civil lawsuit last month. “And I think this entire campus is sorry that occurred. “I’ve heard enough from the community that there is a loss of trust,” he added. “People are angry.

The problem with living in a rich man’s world | Letters - The Guardian

The idea that the departure of the super-rich is a problem ignores a historical fact (Apparent exodus of super-rich suggests UK is no longer billionaires’ playground, 7 October). Capitalism works better without them. The most successful countries today are states where redistributive taxation has empowered the working masses and provided a better and more stable market for business people. How do today’s complaining uber-rich explain the postwar decades, when the top rate of income tax was commonly 80% or 90%, and yet the period is known as a golden age of capitalism? Then Margaret Thatcher lowered the top rate to 60% and the country tilted into a massive recession. The rich get to a point where they simply become wealth extractors, using their money to buy assets and raising the cost of them for the rest of us – housing being a good example today. A good story from 1969 comes from a music writer who was embedded in the Rolling Stones’ tour of America.

There’s Nothing Mysterious or Unusual About the Viral German Sexual Harassment Robot - 404 Media

Let’s briefly deconstruct a viral or soon to be viral story out of Cologne, Germany regarding an incident in which a “remotely controlled robot grabs 16-year-old's buttocks” and “performed thrusting movements against her,” according to police. I have begun to see this story percolate around the English-speaking internet because it is absurd and not good, and has already been aggregated to hell by social media meme pages with essentially zero information other than this absurd police image: The Cologne Police did not exactly help matters by issuing a short press release that treats the robot as mysterious, the circumstances as mysterious, and the evidence as “unusual.” The Cologne Police’s Facebook post featuring a photo of the mustachioed robot reads “A red-gold robot triggered a police operation on the Cologne Ring on Sunday night (October 11). The device is said to have touched a 16-year-old girl's buttocks and performed thrusting movements against her […] The police are now investigating how the robot worked at the time of the assault and whether someone was deliberately controlling its movements. Emergency services seized the robot and two mobile phones from the suspect.

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle change Nottingham plans amid fears: 'Nightmare' - Geo News

Prince Harry, Meghan Markle forced to change Nottingham plans: 'Nightmare'Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are set to visit Nottingham on Thursday, have made a surprise change in their plans amid fears of public outrage. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's discussions about recreating their famous 2017 walkabout have been shut down amid fears of boo, according to a new report. Rather than risking disruption, the couple has chosen a more thoughtful path to avoid untoward situation. READ MORE: Palace warned of Prince Harry's 'secret alliance'“There was talk of another walkabout, but that idea has been killed,” a source tells Rob Shuter. “The nightmare is people turning up to boo them — or nobody bothering to turn up at all. Neither is a risk anyone wants to take,” they added. After the Duke was brutally booed at a Leicester Tigers rugby match, insiders claim avoiding another hostile reception has become a priority for the pair. “They can control the schedule and the photographs,” the source adds. “But they cannot control genuine public affection. That’s why the walkabout idea is dead.”It's worth mentioning here that Nottingham holds special place in the Sussexes' hearts.

Trump says oil, gas and mineral exploration in Greenland is set to begin. It’s not that simple - BNN Bloomberg

Gracelin Baskaran, founding director at the critical minerals security program at the CSIS, joins BNN Bloomberg to discuss tapping Greenland's rare earth potent U. S. President Donald Trump said that “massive” oil, gas and mineral exploration is set to begin in “our new and beautiful Greenland,” though it wasn’t clear what developments he was referring to on an island where resource extraction has stymied companies for decades. Despite Trump’s optimism, the harsh climate of Greenland -- a self-governing territory of Denmark, rather than a part of the United States -- as well as a lack of infrastructure have foiled all previous attempts to extract so-called rare earth minerals, as well as oil and gas. No efforts have ever progressed beyond the exploratory stage, and a moratorium on new gas and oil permits has been in place for several years. “Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is getting ready to begin in our new and beautiful Greenland!” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform following a campaign event Tuesday in Wasilla, Alaska. Trump was stumping for Republican U. S. Sen.
