Poet says being dropped from Senedd royal visit over poem is 'concerning' - BBC

Poet says being dropped from Senedd royal visit over poem is 'concerning'1 day agoDanielle HerbertandAngharad Thomas, BBC WalesBBCThe National Poet of Wales, Hanan Issa, says she is "concerned" by the decisionWales' national poet has said it is "quite concerning" that a poem raising political issues was rejected from the Senedd's opening ceremony. But on Wednesday, Issa posted on social media that the poem she submitted, To Grow, which referred to Gaza and trans healthcare, was rejected on the grounds that the ceremony was "apolitical". The Senedd Commission said the poem, that Issa had reworked and had already been translated into Welsh, was "not the right fit for this occasion". Issa was given her support by one Plaid Cymru MS, Sera Evans, who said it was "very disappointing" the poem was not read at the ceremony. Reform sources said they felt the commission made the correct call. Speaking to BBC Radio Wales Breakfast, Issa said she would not be attending the ceremony where King Charles and the Queen will officially open the Senedd's seventh term. The poet added: "I am not welcome anymore. I won't be part of the ceremony.

No casualties were reported, and authorities were assessing the damage. JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. Drone attacks also prompted officials to cancel classes at schools and kindergartens in Ryazan’s Oktyabrsky district, where the refinery is located, and parts of the Sovetsky district. The attack came after President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv had paused strikes on Russian oil refineries for three days at Washington’s request, but was lifting the restriction because Moscow continued targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. “The block [on attacking refineries] is out. We’re done,” Zelensky told the Financial Times in an interview in London. The Ryazan refinery is Russia’s third-largest by processing capacity, handling 17.1 million metric tons (18.8 million US tons) of crude oil annually.

The renewed hostilities in Tigray threaten to undo a peace process that had begun with an agreement signed in Pretoria, South Africa, in 2022.

Early humans in America endured climate chaos – new research - The Conversation

Some 23,000 years ago, during the coldest part of the last ice age, people walked across the muddy margins of an ancient lake in what is now White Sands national park, New Mexico. The footprints they left behind have transformed our understanding of when people first reached the Americas. I discovered a Roman fort in Wales – it may hold the key to the ancient Welsh legend of Macsen Wledig - The Conversation

My recent discovery of a Roman fort and its extraordinary connection with medieval folklore was the fruition of many hours of painstaking research. This all began in 2002 when I discovered or, more accurately, rediscovered a Roman villa some 30 kilometres to the southwest of Wales. The site was first identified in the early 19th century by Richard Fenton, a local antiquarian. For several reasons, his reliability has been questioned, but mostly because of the perception that the Romans did not reach west Wales was rife in the Regency period and persists to this day.
