Not just Proton: Getting to know Valve's new SteamOS compatibility layers

For Griffais, the goal is for gamers to be able to consider Arm-based hardware without having to say, “Oh, this device is good, and the specs are good, the value is good, but I have to leave a portion of my catalog behind if I’m even considering it.” The second new compatibility layer hitting Steam is Lepton, an expansion of the pre-existing Waydroid project focused on getting standard Android APKs to run on SteamOS through a software container. This layer is especially necessary for the Steam Frame, since many of the standalone VR titles players will be running on the device were originally designed for the Android-based Quest headsets.

GOG brings back "big box" PC games, one printable template at a time

Those who remember PC gaming in the days before Steam may have fond memories of the “big box” packaging that made those games stand out as shelf eye candy and sought-after in-home collectibles. Today, PC gaming platform GOG is hoping to reignite some of the nostalgia for those days by adding downloadable 3D models and printable, foldable high-res packaging scans for a handful of PC games on the platform. Thus far, the “Printable Big Box” collection on GOG is limited to just five games: Armikrog, Descent, Hitman: Codename 47, Myst, and Star Trek: 25th Anniversary. Players browsing those games on the GOG store will now see “3D Boxes” listed among the included “Goodies” before purchase. Owners of those games on GOG can download a ZIP file containing a version of the box art as an animated 3D object file (in an easy-to-open GLB format) and a “flat printable template” in PDF, SVG, and Adobe Illustrator formats. Those downloads allow for what GOG calls “a proper papercraft project for anyone who misses shelves full of PC game boxes.”

The White House made a "Tetris" clone. The Tetris Company was not amused.

In a statement on Friday, a spokesperson for The Tetris Company said it was “reviewing the matter” and that the company “was not involved in the creation of ‘Build the Wall’ and did not authorize or license the Tetris brand or intellectual property for the game.” The company reiterated that message in a social media post Friday afternoon, writing that it “believe[s] in the power of connection and bringing people together, not dividing them.” P. S. The Tetris Company was not involved in the creation of ‘Build the Wall’.

The combat demo for Free Stars: Children of Infinity is out, and it's free

While the returning ships from UQM have had their flight and weapon characteristics lovingly re-created in Fred Ford’s new SIMPLE game engine, there are some important differences this time around—chief among them the fact that, unlike in the 1990s, the ships now can turn much more naturally. UQM melee pros will find that their skills with existing ships will translate pretty well to the new melee environment—but they’ll also have some brushing up to do. In the older game, at least for me, melee was the drug that got me hooked—it’s accessible, easy to figure out, and fun as hell. I can’t count the number of hours my little brother and I spent locked in mortal space combat, blowing each other up with different ship combinations. (My favorite matchup was to let my brother pick the Ur-Quan Dreadnought, one of the most powerful ships, while I would hop into the lightweight Arilou Skiff and, in cruel older-brother fashion, mercilessly reduce him to frustrated tears. Ah, siblings.)

Forza Horizon 6 explodes on Steam even before it's officially out

Forza Horizon 6 looks to have easily delivered the most successful launch for any game in the series on PC, with record-breaking player numbers. The anticipated sequel in the open-world driving game series doesn’t officially launch until May 19, but owners of its most expensive version - the Premium Edition - can play it right now.

Mystic Messenger's most loyal players are getting banned in droves for seemingly playing the game too much

With the 10th anniversary of Mystic Messenger nearly upon us, the dating sim has inexplicably begun issuing wide-spread bans for its most active players. Mystic Messenger, arguably one of the best dating sims around, has been dormant for about seven years. Despite not receiving new content or any meaningful updates in all that time, the game remains popular with its core fans, many of whom just woke up to some shocking news about their accounts.

Forza Horizon 6 review - The driving game for everyone still can’t seem to escape its car-collecting legacy

No matter how tight the turns and how twisty and winding the roads, Forza Horizon 6 is content to just stay the course There is this idea that, for a long-running series to remain as consistently popular as Forza Horizon has been, it needs to diminish itself somewhat with each new entry, gradually losing more and more of its edge in a bid to appeal to the widest possible audience.

Petit Planet preview: HoYoverse's first foray into family-friendly games is very careful to colour within the lines

Petit Planet gives desert island social sims an appealing sci-fantasy paint job, but doesn't bring many new ideas to the table. This isn't a complaint, but I can't help but feel like every new game I pick up at the moment is Animal Crossing. Heartopia? Animal Crossing. Pokopia? Animal Crossing. Tomodachi Life? You guessed it, Animal Crossing! I am unashamedly one of those people who thinks the gaming landscape of the 2020s peaked early when New Horizons gently shepherded us all through lockdown, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that – now that we're well past the midpoint of the decade, I hate to remind you – a bunch of studios have come to the same conclusion, and either spun up their own take on the idea, or repurposed an existing IP to include more Animal Crossing-like elements.

Diablo 4's next season won't have any new mechanics or a new theme because all the focus is on Lord of Hatred

If you don't intend to buy the Lord of Hatred expansion, the next season in Diablo 4 won't be as exciting as you'd expect. Diablo 4 is gearing up for its biggest post-launch event yet: the upcoming release of the Lord of Hatred expansion. As was the case with Vessel of Hatred before it, expansion releases alter the seasonal flow in a few ways, and Blizzard has now explained how.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred review - A compelling conclusion delivered with a panache that proves Blizzard still got it

Lord of Hatred wraps up the arc that began with Diablo 4, as Blizzard so deftly delivers a campaign that will forever live on as one of its best work Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred has, without question, been one of my most anticipated releases of 2026. Diablo 4 is likely my most played game ever by sheer hour count, so it’s easy to see why this expansion is so high up on my list. However many rakes Blizzard has stepped on over the course of the game’s live service, however many seasons or events it botched, I maintain that no other ARPG matches Diablo 4 in either game feel or production value.

Naval warfare, an actual server browser and more on the way to Battlefield 6 this year as BF Studios reveals 2026 roadmap

2026 is looking very exciting for Battlefield 6, even if much of what's coming is based on things we already know, and some we've long been asking for. It took Battlefield Studios over four months to tell Battlefield 6 players what they can actually expect from the game over the course of this year, in terms of content - but we’re glad to see a plan laid out nonetheless.
