Tech giants come knocking for a piece of Anglo American as copper scarcity bites, Wanblad tells FT - Mining.com
Anglo American (LON: AAL) has held talks with technology companies interested in buying equity in the miner as a way of securing supplies of the metals that go into data centres, chief executive Duncan Wanblad told the Financial Times’ Metals and Mining Summit in London on Thursday. Discussions were “absolutely being had”, Wanblad said, with the question from the tech side coming down to whether to lock in long-term offtake directly or take an equity position to secure a stake in future supply. No stakes have been taken, but there had been “deep expressions of interest” in doing so, he told the summit. “Given the scarcity issue that we’ve been speaking about, a lot of people are looking for ways to secure supply.”

Why business leaders are ‘cautiously optimistic’ about the upcoming federal budget - BNN Bloomberg
Lachlan Wolfers, national leader at KPMG Law, Canada, joins BNN Bloomberg to discuss what businesses want ahead of the Federal Budget 2026. As Canada’s business leaders await the release of the 2026 federal budget, a majority say they’re optimistic about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s economic and fiscal plans as long as they lead to “concrete action,” research suggests. On Thursday, KPMG released the results of a recent poll that found 71 per cent of business leaders are expecting a “business-friendly budget that improves their prospects” from the federal Liberals this fall. Although Canada’s economic outlook is clouded by trade tensions with the U. S., the need for lawmakers to put forward a plan that mitigates that uncertainty is partly why leaders are so bullish on the budget, argues Lachlan Wolfers, national leader at KPMG Law Canada. “I’d say the optimism is born out of current economic conditions, which are obviously fragile, but people are cautiously optimistic in the government trying to ensure policy settings encourage further business innovation and investment along the way,” he said.

BNN Bloomberg is Canada’s definitive source for business news dedicated exclusively to helping Canadians invest and build their businesses. NEW YORK — U. S. stock indexes muscled higher Thursday, led by companies delivering bigger profits. They pulled closer to their records even as stocks in the artificial intelligence industry kept swinging on worries about how much longer their boom will last. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 556 points, or 1.1 per cent, while the Nasdaq composite added 0.1 per cent. Marsh & McLennan helped lead the way and rallied 4.6 per cent after the insurance and professional services firm that updated its brand name to Marsh reported a stronger profit for the summer than analysts expected. S&P 500 market updates hereExpectations are high for growth in profits from all kinds of companies this reporting season, which began in earnest this week. That’s what’s allowed U. S. stocks to set records despite high inflation and the many other worries weighing on Wall Street.

Greg Newman’s Top Picks for Oct. 15, 2026 - BNN Bloomberg
Published: October 15, 2026 at 1:13p.m. EDTGreg Newman, senior wealth advisor & portfolio manager at Newman Group, ScotiaMcLeod, shares his outlook on North American Equities. Greg Newman, Senior Wealth Advisor & Portfolio Manager, Newman Group, ScotiaMcLeodFocus: North American EquitiesTop Picks: Alphabet, Brookfield Corp., Amazon.com MARKET OUTLOOK:Bond yields have risen sharply in a short period. Add the prospect of further rate hikes, contentious midterm elections, tariffs, sticky inflation, weakening market breadth, a heavy initial public offering (IPO) calendar and geopolitical uncertainty, and it is understandable that investors are reassessing risk. But this is not a one-sided story. Productivity is improving, earnings remain strong, and the scale of artificial intelligence (AI) investment could mark the beginning of a generational economic cycle. AI may displace jobs and create profound disruption. Those risks are real. But history also shows that major innovations create new industries, raise productivity and expand wealth in ways that are difficult to anticipate at the outset.

U.S. Treasury’s gold revaluation could restart the ‘debasement trade’ as yield pressures fade – UBP’s Kinsella - Kitco
(Kitco News) – Gold has likely seen the worst of its Treasury-yield-driven losses, and once the Iran situation improves and Fed rate hike expectations ease, the Treasury department itself could provide a new tailwind for bullion prices between now and year-end, according to Peter Kinsella, Head of Investment Services for the UK at Swiss private bank UBP. Kinsella noted that gold has traded lower since the Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point rate hike in September. “The downward move has been rather muted, considering the huge rise in both nominal and real inflation-adjusted interest rates,” he said. “US 10-year yields have risen to highs of 5.30%, and 10-year TIPS yields (a proxy for real interest rate expectations) have risen to levels of just below 3%.”“Normally, we would expect gold to decline materially in such circumstances,” he wrote. “The modest decline suggests that gold–interest rate correlations have continued to wane.”Kinsella pointed out that throughout August and early September, investors continued to increase their exposure to gold, even as treasury yields continued to rise.
