Netflix's New Epic Fantasy Saga Is Already Bigger Than Peak 'Game of Thrones' - MovieWeb

Since 2022, Richard Fink has been a contributing writer at MovieWeb, working in news, features, list, and reviews. He previously was part of the news team at Screen Rant for two years. Even before Game of Thrones concluded its eight-season run in 2019, every major streaming platform was looking for its own answer to the hit HBO fantasy series. In the years since, plenty of high-budget fantasy shows have vied for the crown, including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Dune: Prophecy, and the upcoming Harry Potter reboot. Even HBO couldn't let Game of Thrones go, so it turned it into a multi-series property with spin-offs like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Netflix, however, might have the true challenger to Game of Thrones coming in 2027. The streamer has recruited an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker behind one of the past decade's biggest movies to reimagine a classic fantasy series for a new age. Netflix is so confident in its potential that it is breaking with the streamer's convention and giving the fantasy epic an exclusive theatrical release. The film in question is none other than Greta Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew.

'70% of My Job Is Done for Me by Stephen King' — Mike Flanagan Reveals His 'Remarkably Faithful' The Dark Tower TV Series Plan - IGN

Posted: Oct 16, 2026 10:11am UTCMike Flanagan has revealed his approach for the hotly-anticipated The Dark Tower TV show, which is sure to please fans of Stephen King’s book series. Flanagan, famous for Netflix horror shows The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and, most recently, Amazon's Carrie, has been trying to get an adaptation of King’s much-loved fantasy saga off the ground for years — despite the fact the script for Season 1 has King’s seal of approval. The Dark Tower is currently “one of the most complicated properties to get started,” Flanagan told Entertainment Weekly in the summer, referencing his struggle to get the go-ahead. “Getting the green light on Dark Tower is a much longer and more involved process than anything else I’ve ever approached in my life.”Actually getting The Dark Tower made is the hard part, then. But in terms of the adaptation itself, it’s relatively straightforward. That’s because Flanagan has taken the approach of faithfully adapting the books, almost to a fault, leaning heavily on the story King himself told. “That one I feel like I figured out,” Flanagan said in a recent interview with The Process Unlocked.

For Hudson Williams, a witchy Canadian series was the perfect project after Heated Rivalry - The Globe and Mail

The quietly sizzling scene was being shot on a rainy March morning in a grand old house in Victoria, the stately home separated from the street by an expansive lawn. A main-floor living room had been transformed into a set: a dark, old-school university professor’s office. And a seduction was under way. “I would like to talk to you today about bones,” the character played by Hudson Williams, suddenly one of the hottest stars on the planet, said to the character played by Carrie-Anne Moss. In the scene, Moss’s Katherine, a professor with deep expertise in bones, is being interviewed for a podcast by Williams’s Henry Park, heir to a fishery fortune in a small coastal town. “Are you comfortable or would you rather do it on the desk,” Henry asks. “I think you mean at the desk,” Katherine responds. It might be raining outside but it is steamy on set. “Prioritize the hot, people,” showrunner Kat Sandler instructs. What makes Marxism scientific? – a scientific enquiry - In Defence of Marxism

“There is no royal road to science, and only those who do not dread the fatiguing climb of its steep paths have a chance of gaining its luminous summits.”– Karl Marx, Preface to the French edition of Capital.[1][We publish here the editorial of issue 55 of 'In Defence of Marxism' magazine – the quarterly theoretical journal of the Revolutionary Communist International. Get your copy now!]In preparing the present issue, a comrade asked the deceptively simple question: what makes Marxism scientific? The reader who is acquainted with Marxist literature may already have the answer ready in mind. But as Hegel pointed out: what is familiar and generally known, on account of being generally known, is not really known. What do we mean by this? If we are looking to understand something deeply we cannot anticipate an answer; nor can we presume that our method is sound. We must proceed systematically to investigate our subject on its own account, and in doing so to show how it necessarily unfolds. That is the scientific method of Marxism. And that is the path we will take. Let us begin. The claimIn order to answer our question, we will start from the simplest and most immediate form of answer
