WWE SmackDown results, review, grades for Oct. 16: Cody Rhodes punts Baron Corbin as Randy Orton watches - CBS Sports

Orton is in more trouble than he realized as the two top stars continue to feud
Randy Orton may have underestimated how badly Cody Rhodes wants to hurt him. On WWE SmackDown, Rhodes took his anger out on Baron Corbin, tapping into a darkness Orton didn't know he had. Orton and Rhodes have been feuding since before WrestleMania. In April, Orton legitimately shattered Rhodes' face with a punt. Rhodes has teased returning the favor over the last few weeks. Orton didn't believe that his former pupil had it in him, but he should re-evaluate after Rhodes' actions on Friday. Elsewhere on WWE SmackDown, Sami Zayn feels control of the undisputed WWE championship slipping away from him. Penta is an immediate threat after winning Money in the Bank. Zayn tried to steer Penta toward world heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and used Rey Fenix as a pawn in his plan. CBS Sports was with you all night with recaps and highlights of all the action from Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. Alright everyone, it’s time for WWE Smackdown. We’re on the heels of Money in the Bank which was kind of a giant nothing burger, doubly so on the Smackdown side of things as there wasn’t a Smackdown match on the event. But Tiffany Stratton and Penta won the briefcases, so now we’re doing another friend turning slow burn on the women’s side of things. On RAW that’s what Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez are doing, and have been doing for ages now, while on Smackdown now we get to look forward to Tiffany turning on WWE women’s champion Chelsea Green. Penta was a good choice for the men’s briefcase, though the Smackdown main event scene is packed right now and moving him over might be a logistical error if he does cash in on Sami Zayn. We’ve got to build to Crown Jewel quickly, and hope the Riyadh airport doesn’t get bombed again, so expect some more champion vs. champion stuff. Though Liv vs. Green and Roman Reigns vs. Sami don’t feel like super important matches, but maybe that’s just me being incredibly jaded. Tonight Nikki Bella gets to rematch Paige and Nikki trying for a title run in 2026 is just divine punishment aimed at wrestling.

AHN Cancer Center Launches RANDY’S Trial for Peritoneal Fibrosis - The Clinical Trial Vanguard
Fibrosis, the dense scar tissue that can entangle peritoneal tumors and the healthy organs around them, is one reason cytoreduction surgery is denied to a portion of patients with appendiceal and other abdominal cancers. Allegheny Health Network Cancer Center’s newly launched RANDY’S Trial is built on a direct answer to that problem: test whether FDA-approved drugs already on the market can remodel that scar tissue and bring more patients into surgical eligibility. The trial did not emerge from a pharma pipeline or an NIH grant. A single community gala, the La Sera d’Oro event, raised $44,000 in 2025 to fund it. The acronym stands for Repurposed And Naturally-Derived Drugs for the Treatment of Fibrosis in Peritoneal Carcinomatosis. Principal investigator Patrick Wagner, a surgical oncologist at AHN, is leading a multidisciplinary team that will evaluate existing medications for their ability to break down or remodel abdominal scar tissue. The mechanism matters because fibrosis does two things that complicate surgery: it obscures the boundary between healthy and diseased tissue, and it can trap cancer cells that are then left behind when a surgeon separates planes.
