Ottawa finally hit a wall with their first bad game of the season.

The Ottawa Senators put the red alternates on for the first time in 2026-27, hoping to build on an excellent start to the season. Spoiler alert: with three members of their defence corps boasting a combined 15 NHL games and the second half of a back-to-back working against them, it was too tall an order for Ottawa to handle. The blowout loss didn't start right away, and the Senators came out of the gate making some nice passes and pressuring the Blues in the opening minutes. St Louis were not passive, however, and managed the first threatening chances of the game that forced Samuel Ersson to get active in net. A delayed holding penalty by Jordan Spence let the Blues play keep-away in the Senators' zone for longer than I was comfortable with, but Ersson shut it down. On the ensuing kill, the Blues' 29th-ranked power play showed why it sits so low. Their play was sloppy, and the most threatening sequence came when Ridly Greig got in with space on Joel Hofer. St. Louis didn't register a single shot.

Lowry: ‘Conversations’ needed if Hellebuyck were to return to Jets - TSN

Winnipeg Jets captain Adam Lowry told reporters Saturday that the air will need to be cleared if Connor Hellebuyck is to return to the team after his suspension ends. Speaking to reporters following a narrow 3-2 loss to the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, Lowry was asked about a report that indicated Hellebuyck’s suspension could end next Friday. He said there would need to be “conversations” should the star goaltender return to the Jets. “He’s a good friend of mine. Do I love the decision? Do I love the way it’s dragged on? No. But we’ll handle the situation when it comes. Obviously we’re disappointed with the outcome, he’s one of the best goalies in the world,” Lowry said. “It’s unfair to speculate on what’s going to happen between now until Friday. But I think if he does show up there’s going to have to be conversations, there’s going to have to be kind of one of those water under the bridge things. Like I said we keep moving forward, we’re a team regardless of who’s in the room.”Lowry also pointed out that things could change between now and a potential return to Winnipeg for Hellebuyck.
