Blind chimp in Louisiana regains sight after cataract surgery - Popular Science
Pierre is a 54-year-old chimpanzee with a whole new outlook on life. Fifty-four-year-old Pierre was completely blind before undergoing a cataract surgery that restored his sight. With this surgery comes a greater ability to move around his surroundings, participate in fun activities, climb more confidently, and control his dynamics with other chimps (Pan troglodytes). Oh forgot to mention, Pierre is a chimpanzee. He’s a resident at Chimp Haven, a chimpanzee sanctuary in Louisiana (and the largest in the world) where most of the chimps have retired from biomedical research.

Chronic Proton Pump Inhibitor Use Linked to More Asthma Exacerbations - HCPLive
Chronic proton pump inhibitor use carried 60% greater odds of asthma exacerbation and nearly 4-fold odds of rescue corticosteroid use in a matched cohort of 2456 patients.

Inflamed and Calcified Pilomatrixoma of the Mandibular Angle Mimicking an Epidermoid Cyst: A Case Report - Cureus
Pilomatrixoma is a benign hair follicle tumor seen mainly in children and young adults. Its diagnosis may be less straightforward when inflammation changes the usual clinical appearance. We describe the case of a 14-year-old girl with a one-year history of swelling at the left mandibular angle. The lesion had repeatedly discharged blood and pus, becoming smaller after discharge before enlarging again. Three connected nodules were eventually noted, and an epidermoid cyst was initially suspected. Ultrasound showed a solid subcutaneous lesion with echogenic foci and posterior acoustic shadowing. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated internal calcification and raised the possibility of pilomatrixoma before surgery. The lesion was completely excised, and histopathology confirmed an inflamed and calcified pilomatrixoma without malignant changes. Recovery was uncomplicated. This case draws attention to an inflammatory presentation of pilomatrixoma that can resemble an epidermoid cyst and shows how calcification on imaging may help guide the diagnosis when the clinical findings are misleading.

Safety and Effectiveness of Bupropion for Smoking Cessation During Pregnancy: A Scoping Review - Cureus
Smoking during pregnancy is associated with adverse maternal, fetal, and neonatal outcomes. Although behavioral counseling remains first-line treatment, pharmacotherapy may be considered when counseling alone is insufficient. This scoping review mapped the available evidence on the safety and effectiveness of bupropion for smoking cessation during pregnancy. The review was conducted according to Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase, the Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched without date restrictions for English-language studies evaluating bupropion for smoking cessation during pregnancy. Two reviewers independently screened records, and the review team extracted data on smoking cessation, maternal safety, and fetal or neonatal outcomes. Of 599 records identified, 13 sources of evidence met the inclusion criteria. Maternal and fetal safety findings were generally reassuring, with no consistent increase in maternal adverse events, major congenital malformations, preterm birth, impaired fet

Maternal Vaccine Receipt, Intentions, and Refusal Among Pregnant Women Attending Antenatal Care in Panama City: A Cross-Sectional Study - Cureus
Background/objectives Maternal vaccination surveys often combine willingness and receipt, potentially obscuring differences between these measures. We quantified self-reported vaccine receipt, intention without receipt, complete reported receipt, and refusal in an urban Panamanian convenience sample and examined their relationship with vaccination recommendation. Methods We analyzed an anonymous cross-sectional survey completed from March 26 to July 25, 2026, by 204 pregnant women aged 18 years or older recruited in health-related settings in Panama City. Self-reported receipt meant reporting at least one maternal vaccine during the current pregnancy. Intention without receipt meant planning at least one vaccine without reporting receipt of any specific vaccine. Complete reported receipt was the independent response "already received all," rather than verified completion of a vaccination schedule. Modified Poisson regression with robust variance estimated prevalence ratios (PRs). A secondary, post hoc evaluation examined six rating items without claiming formal questionnaire validation. Results The number of women who chose self-reported receipt was 128/204 (62.7%; exact 95% confid
