Steep temperature drop could bring Ontario its first snowflakes - The Weather Network

An incoming fall storm is bringing rain and strong winds to Ontario on Friday, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures that could deliver the season’s first lake-effect snowflakes to parts of southern Ontario. Temperatures will fall sharply behind the departing system, with the coldest conditions expected overnight Friday into Saturday. DON'T MISS: Winter snowfall across Canada may fall victim to El NiñoRain eases as cold air moves inRain will gradually ease across much of Ontario through Friday, although scattered showers are expected to linger. Rainfall totals could reach 20-30 mm in parts of eastern Ontario, with locally higher amounts possible. Behind the storm, strong northerly winds will usher in much colder air, with gusts near 50 km/h. The winds will also generate higher-than-normal waves along the Great Lakes shorelines. Temperatures will drop rapidly overnight, with some inland areas potentially reaching or falling below the freezing mark.

A travel expert who flies 150,000 miles a year shares the one item he always packs, even though he's rarely used it - Business Insider

Flight expert Zach Griff shares why he always brings an extra phone in his carry-on backpack. It's probably tucked away in a drawer, stashed in your desk or nightstand, beneath chargers, stray cords, and pieces of paper you don't think you're supposed to throw out but probably will never need again. You probably haven't thought about it since you put it there. But Zach Griff's old phone is in his carry-on backpack. Griff, a travel expert and author of the travel newsletter From the Tray Table, estimates that he flies an average of 150,000 miles a year. And for the past 11 years, he said, he's carried his retired cellphone with him around the world. Why you should always travel with 2 phones

Best of Both Worlds: 'Hybrid' Quantum Computers Could Be Just Around The Corner, Researchers Say - ScienceAlert

For all their promise, quantum computers have a hard time modeling the interactions between the two families of building blocks that underlie our Universe – can you imagine a chef that struggles to describe how sugar and milk make cake? But researchers may have found a way to overcome this challenge by modeling a theoretical 'hybrid' quantum computer that promises to combine the best of both worlds. The fundamental particles that make up the cosmic cake of our existence are grouped as either fermions or bosons. In simplest terms, fermions are particles of matter, including electrons and protons, and bosons include force-mediating particles, like the photons (light) that carry the electromagnetic force.  Quantum computers are great at modeling fermions, because they're more discrete, just like the qubits that power quantum computing.

Mark Gurman: Apple Made 'Major Mistake' With iPhone Duo Pre-Orders - MacRumors

Despite knowing that the iPhone Duo would face "severe supply constraints" due to manufacturing challenges, Apple chose to begin iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday instead of waiting until it had more inventory ready, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter today, he called this decision a "major mistake. " "Let me cut to the chase: Apple made a major mistake here," he said. "The company knew there would be severe supply constraints but went ahead with the launch anyway, apparently prioritizing a desire to get the device on the market early in its fiscal first quarter over satisfying demand. That will disappoint many of the early adopters most eager to buy it. "
