This Espresso Machine Can Run Doom

Before caffeinating yourself in the morning, the Fellow Espresso Series 1 machine can actually run 1993's Doom on its small, circular screen. Reddit user FullExtraction showed off the classic FPS, utilizing the brew button to run and steam button to shoot. The scroll wheel on the device turns Doomguy either left or right. There's also a wider-angle video of Doom working on the espresso machine, via custom firmware. The game looks pretty smooth in the snippet, showcasing a solid frame rate. Out of the box, that circular screen provides a user interface to choose what drink you're making--such as an americano, cappuccino, or even a straight shot of espresso. It will provide text directions as well as a timer for extraction, too. Or, apparently, you can blast some demons. https://www.reddit.com/r/espresso/comments/1x79c1q/yes_itrunsdoom_fellowes1/?solution=8902c77b28c56b408902c77b28c56b40&js_challenge=1&jsc_token=2824be10929bdc604753c70a67a1c33158037e61e2abdf23ade535fe55d21d18&jsc_orig_r=&share_id=ui9ELfiTwjxjO8TqG2sE1&utm_content=1&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_source=share&utm_term=1 This espresso machine joins a long, long list of devices, games, and even potatoes that ca

Someone got Doom in an SQL database

“Rendering Doom in a database is obviously a bad idea,” Lukas Vogel writes in a lengthy blog post explaining how exactly he managed to render Doom using an SQL database. OK, that’s not entirely accurate. The SQLDoom project uses a small Python client to handle input and output, drive the game’s timing, and display each frame to the screen. Behind that, a series of CedarDB tables tracks the game geometry and state, while about 1,300 lines of SQL queries spread across 89 common table expressions implement the game logic and generate 35 bitmap framebuffers per second.

Jody Head and his son Jonathan Head speak to CBC at Head's Meat Services in Norris Arm North, N. L. (Troy Turner/CBC)There are many reasons Newfoundlanders and Labradorians hunt moose, and the value in the meat is absolutely one of them. A single moose can weigh up to 1,200 pounds, with a good portion of that becoming a key contribution to family freezers as roasts, steaks, sausages, burgers and more — if properly butchered.
