Free-scoring Brighton continue to impress and entertain as they thrash Palace - BBC

Not only are Brighton scoring more than everyone else in the Premier League, they are netting better goals too. Centre-half Lewis Dunk won the Premier League goal of the month for September with a 35-yard stunner against Coventry. Now, five weeks later, that has already been eclipsed. Step forward Seagulls team-mate Diego Gomez, who shot from the halfway line having seen Crystal Palace goalkeeper Walter Benitez off his line during Brighton's emphatic 5-0 win over their rivals on Sunday. Benitez made a rapid dash back to his goal and produced a desperate dive but could not stop the ball going in just under the crossbar. "As soon as he struck it, I knew it was in. He's taken the club goal of the season off me," joked Brighton skipper Dunk. "That's the goal of the season so far, what a hit," added former Premier League striker Efan Ekoku, part of the commentary team for BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra. "[It was] superbly struck and right over the head of the keeper from the centre-circle.

The Blue Jays’ Unexpected Deadline Sparkplug - MLB Trade Rumors

The Blue Jays’ 5-1 loss to the Cardinals on August 2 dropped Toronto to 52-60, the kind of record that usually would’ve made a team a clear seller heading into the next day’s trade deadline.  For the Jays, however, the situation wasn’t quite so simple.  The Blue Jays came within two outs of winning the 2025 World Series and headed into 2026 still in full win-now mode, so the front office was loath to wave the white flag on the playoff race.  And, despite their mediocre record, the Jays were still in the wild card hunt, 4.5 games back of the Guardians for the final AL wild card slot. Toronto’s response was to both buy and sell at the deadline.  Some controllable players (i.e. Jose Soriano, Spencer Arrighetti, Josh Smith) were added to help the team both make a push this season and for the future.  Arrighetti was acquired from the Astros in a one-for-one swap for Daulton Varsho, who was one of several impending free agents the Jays sent elsewhere.  Besides Varsho, the Blue Jays also parted ways with Jeff Hoffman and Kevin Gausman, with the latter sent to the Cubs for prospects Brett Bateman and Ty Southisene.

Dana White addresses Farid Basharat controversy following UFC exit: ‘There’s definitely a reason’ - MMA Fighting

Dana White suggested there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Farid Basharat no longer being on the UFC roster. The undefeated Basharat made headlines this week when MMA Fighting reported he was a free agent following the completion of his UFC contract. Basharat’s departure raised eyebrows due to his 16-0 record, including seven UFC victories. However, Basharat also secured just one finish during his time in the promotion, which led to theories that his style might not have been considered exciting enough in the eyes of officials. Following Saturday’s UFC Edmonton event, UFC DEO Dana White was asked about the Basharat situation and alluded to issues beyond in-cage performance and contract numbers. “I think that when guys’ contracts are up—I mean, this is the first time this has happened—either guys aren’t good to deal with and the matchmakers don’t want to deal with them, which could be turning down fights or whatever the reasoning is,” White said. “If you’re 16-0, with seven wins in the UFC and don’t get re-signed, there’s definitely a reason.”White didn’t elaborate on the reason for Basharat not being re-signed, nor were there any follow-up questions on the topic.

U.S. service member died from fall before Navy-UTSA game - TSN

A member of the Air Force has died from his injuries after he fell while attempting to rappel from the rafters of the Alamodome during a pregame demonstration before UTSA's football game against Navy on Saturday, the Air Force said. Nellis Air Force Base Public Affairs issued a statement saying the service member, who was assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, was injured at the stadium and died at a local hospital. The incident is under investigation. The Air Force base did not release the service member's identity. As part of a pregame ceremony for UTSA's annual Salute to Armed Forces & Veterans game, four officers were set to rappel down to the field 15 minutes before kickoff. The officer appeared to lose control while descending, sliding down the line and crashing to the turf. Medical personnel immediately attended to the officer, and he was taken from the Alamodome on a stretcher and transported to the hospital. "We are deeply saddened by the incident that occurred at the start of tonight's game," UTSA said in a statement. "Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the soldier who was affected, his family and his military colleagues.
